Shirley Haniak Obituary

It is with great sorrow that the family announces the death of Mrs. Shirley Edith Haniak (Kosola), age 71 years, who passed away at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, with her family by her side. Shirley was born in Fort William on November 9, 1938 to Ina and Onni Kosola. She married the love of her life, Harry, on November 28, 1959. Together they lived a very successful and happy life. In 1970, Shirley and Harry started running Potters Pumping Service, which they ran successfully until 1992, when they both retired due to illness. Mom enjoyed travelling with Dad and friends. Together they spent winters at their home in Texas. Mom also enjoyed camping and fishing at Whitefish Lake and Shaco Lake, as well as playing bingo at different halls and at Manion Court with all her friends. Shirley really enjoyed travelling on the bus with friends of Manion Court down to Grand Portage. She loved spending quality time with all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom is survived by her children: Peter (Cindy) Haniak, Sandra (Fred) Mazur, Sharon (Willie Brewer), Shelley (David) Brewer, Sheila (Tom Tronsen); 11 grandchildren, Jacob (Bobbi Jean) Mazur, Jennifer Mazur (Chris Defoort), John Henry Mazur, Carrie (Shawn Stevens) and Kristen Moffitt, Amanda and Tyler Haniak, Jordan and Travis Fraser, Jeremy and Kenny Brewer; 3 great-grandchildren, Tanner and Brooklynn Stevens and Katelynne Defoort; and 2 step-great-grandchildren Dylan and Taylor Laughton; sisters Thelma Potter, Brenda Effinger, and Diane Paulson (B.C. ). Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Shirley was pre-deceased by her husband of 47 years, Harry, on December 30, 2006; her Mother and Father, Ina and Onni Kosola; and her Mother and Father-in-law, Julia Haniak (Danko) and Peter Haniak. Funeral Services for the late Mrs. Shirley Haniak will be held at 10:00AM on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 W. Gore St at James, with Rev. Jann Sampson officiating. Private family interment will take place in Mountainview Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations to the Heart and Stroke foundation would be greatly appreciated.
