Shirley McMartin – January 16, 1936 – 2018 in her 82nd year passed away with her family by her side on July 9, 2018. Written by Shirley Tinker Bell has made it to Never Never Land. I left of my own choosing today. Well I sure hope I made it! I leave my wonderful husband Leonard McMartin of over 63 years. We were married on January 14, 1955, our two daughters Sandra (McMartin) Whitelock, our perfect son-in-law Tim Whitelock (he wrote that) and their two daughters Shawna and Casey her fiance (David Schelhas), our second daughter Rebecca and her partner Joanne Ingram. The day the music died for this family was the tragic day our oldest daughter Kelly died. She left us the gift of two children Andrew (Candice) and Anne (Greg). I also leave behind my brother Lawrence MacFadyen (Boy), his children Laurie (Randy), Kyle and Brendan, Scott (Dana) Brianne and Tyler and Sheri (Eric) and Genevieve, and his and our dear friend Virginia Lenocker. My baby sister Wilma (Bub), she did not walk until she was 12. I carried her everywhere and her husband Marty. Marty will always be just Marty to me, not Martin. Her children Jimmie (Michelle and Kaila), Tommie, Cathy (Daniel and Emma), Christy, her children Fynn and Shea and her partner Thana. I was so fortunate to have an Aunt who kept us in contact with our three cousins Paul, (Vivian) and their son our lost Chris, Brian, and Dan (Cindy) and their children Shawn and Ryan . They were the sons of my Mother's brother Fergus who passed years ago when they were little boys. She kept us all together then gave us another set of relatives Margaret Anne her children (our Joey) Brian and Andy, Mary (Rick) (dear Lacretia), Nick my friend Max and his mom Tess. Laura (Matt), and Patty (Jim) and their son Easton when she married Rex Lott. Rex became the Dad to all of them, and darned if we didn't get more family. People would ask "how are you all related? Our answer ... it's complicated. Dearest friends from high school, Svea and Roy Kadolph and Jack and Adeline Woodbeck. We are so lucky we all lived to be over 80. My knitting club ladies. We called ourselves therapy most of the time, however yes we did knit. Our numbers have dwindled but those that are left still love each other. We cradled each others babies and now we watch them retire. Maddie (Carl) Chase and Norma (Eric) Knusden have been dear friends for over 50 years, we had many unforgettable moments at camp, as well as days that we forgot. When we lost Eric and Carl we lost their humour but, oh the memories from those times and a few self inflicted wounds will never be forgotten. We spend almost 30 years at our home in Mesa Arizona during the winter months. We cherished each winter we were down there, and the time spent with new friends and family. We would not have been in Mesa Arizona if it was not for my Aunt Margaret. One of our greatest family tree find was another batch of Kelly's, complete with a family tree expert, more family, more love. My dearest Marlene Cochrane KELLY (that's for you Momma).. all caps for the Kelly family and the Kam Kelly ball team. Knowing me and how I go on this is not the end, just in case it is I want everyone to know I AM NOT AFRAID. Private family service to follow at a later date.

I'm sorry it has taken this long for me to find this memorial page. Shirley was my first cousin on the MacFadyen side; my mother and her father were sister and brother. We only connected very late in life through a family tree contact. We visited Shirley and Len in Thunder Bay and that began a wonderful friendship via email. Shirley and Len then visited us here in Carman, Manitoba and we had a splendid time. Many laughs and reminiscences from our childhoods in Kennedy Saskatchewan, and of our special Little Grandma. I'm sure Shirley is in her arms right now. To Len and family, many of whom we never got the opportunity to meet, take comfort in your memories of Shirley. I'm sure you miss her terribly...but just think of the ball she's having in Never Never Land!

I remember your family from our neighbourhood. I am sorry for your loss but just had to say, that I absolutely loved this obituary. Your Mom must have been a hoot! What a fine way to remember her. Lynda
