SIBYL CADIEU Obituary

Sibyl Stewart Cadieu (née Munro), aged 94, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2025, in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Born on October 29, 1931, in Edinburgh, Scotland, Sibyl lived a life marked by independence, resilience and quiet determination.

In 1956, Sibyl made the brave decision to immigrate Canada, settling in the Lakehead, where she met and married Jere Cadieu in 1957. She built her life here, saying often how glad she was that she'd come and that her only regret was that she should have immigrated sooner! She maintained her home on Essex Court well into her 90s a testament to her strength and independence.

Sibyl had a deep appreciation for beauty and craftsmanship. She supported the work of many local potters, woodworkers and painters and was a talented knitter and seamstress, herself. From blankets to blouses and dresses, the things she made were always "just so."

Sibyl worked for many years for Sakiyama Construction. In her retirement, she was an avid horsewoman who cherished time spent riding, volunteering and spectating at equestrian events. She was a longtime member of the Lakehead Shrine Club.

Sibyl is remembered with affection by the Burgess family: Ira and Penny, Melissa Humphries (Peter) and Krista Libman (Bruce), as well as her sister, Marion Small, and her family in Edinburgh. Sibyl's loyal friends, Margaret Crozier and Sheila Shannon, were by her side through recent challenges.

Recently, she was cared for with great compassion by staff at Southbridge Lakehead Manor and Nora Caasi-Saites, whose dedication brought comfort and dignity to Sibyl's final days.

Sibyl was predeceased by her husband, Jere, her father, William Munro, and her mother Elizabeth (Bessie) Wilson.

Sibyl has been cremated and will be interred with her husband, Jere, at Mountainview Cemetery.

Sincere Condolences to her Family .I was saddened to learn of our special Friend, Sibyl´s, passing. We met at the local Horse Shows and we became very good Friends . She travelled to Brandon, Man. with us for a week-long Appaloosa Horse Club Show. She and our daughter were very close friends despite the age difference and she stood up with our daughter at her Wedding . After moving to the East Coast , I called her weekly - great conversations and laughs. When I returned to Thunder Bay for a visit , I visited her when I learned she was in St. Jos. & I called weekly after that but lost track of her when she was transferred from St. Jos. and because I wasn´t a relative , they could not tell me where . Cherished memories of a Special Friend ... Rest in Peace , Sibyl
