SIMONE ANGUS Obituary

December 13, 1939 - December 17, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our Mother Simone Ruth "Nenookaasikwe - Hummingbird Woman" with her children by her side. Simone was born on December 13, 1939 to Percy and Florence (John) Angus. She was raised in Parmachene, then later in Nipigon, ON. She had many jobs throughout her life, from working at the Nipigon Plywood Mill to waitressing and cooking at various restaurants in Thunder Bay, Nipigon, Schreiber and Terrace Bay. Mom enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping, hunting, fishing and blueberry picking. She loved to sing songs and play her guitar with her brother Marcel, or her best friend Mona. She was proud to be a member of the CWL, the Metis Association, ONWA and the Kinna-aweya Clinic. When she retired, Mom volunteered for the Church in many roles. Mom was the oldest member of the Red Rock Indian Band Community and enjoyed attending Pow-wows and various ceremonies, especially the Full Moon Ceremonies. It was here where she always made those attending laugh with her witty humour. One of our Mother's proudest moments was when her Drum group, Lake Superior Women Drummers (Gichi-gaming Ikwewag) recorded a CD of their favourite traditional songs. To this day, this CD has inspired many Indigenous women and students to learn the Ojibwe language and to form their own drum groups. We would like to thank All My Relations Drum Group for sending Mom off in a good way singing five of her favourite songs just before she passed on to the Spirit World. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Percy and Florence Angus, her beloved brother Marcel, her sister Irene and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her children Anthony aka Roydon, Jake (Lydia), Cecilia, Noelle and Basil (Colleen). Also by her grandchildren whom she loved and cherished so much: Cody, son of Jake, Staci (Dylan) and Brandi (Greg), daughters of Cecilia and Dylan, son of Anthony. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Hogarth Riverview Manor 7 North, where she will be missed dearly. We would also like to thank Katie from In'doo'owe Binesi for coming to smudge with Mom and her children, and to Mona, Ginette and Angele who came from out of town to sit with Mom on her final days. We know she felt your presence. Funeral services for our Mother will be held on January 17, 2026 at the Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Nipigon, Ontario at 11:00 am officiated by Father Bonaventure Anaike.

Love you forever and ever Mom / Granny. Giga-waabamin miinawaa
