Sofie Stasiukiewicz

stasiukiewicz Mrs. Sofie (Borysewicz) Stasiukiewicz, age 85 years, a resident of Dawson Court (formerly of 275 Madeline Street) passed away in Thunder Bay Regional Hospital - McKellar on Wednesday, May 10, 2000. Born in Mala Plotnica, Poland, she came to Canada and Port Arthur in 1949. Sofie spent her time raising her family, tending to the garden, as well as sewing and needlepoint. Sofie is survived by two sons - George (Joyce) Barwick of Thunder Bay and Henry Barwick of Calgary, AB (here); two daughters - Jenny Donald of London, ON and Debbie (Terry) Ruuska of Kenora, ON; ten grandchildren - Avery Ruuska; Michelle Greenall; Lee Lomax; Greg Donald; Leah, James and Sarah Barwick; Nathan, Katherine and Camille Borysewicz; four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives in Canada and Poland. Sofie was predeceased by her parents; two sons- Jerry (1991) and Sergei (in Poland); and daughter Halina (in Germany). Cremation has taken place, and a Memorial Service will be held on Monday, May 15th at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, officiated by Rev. Bill Maluzynsky of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. If friends so desire, as expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in Sofie's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Alzheimer Society, or charity of your choice."
