SONIA FEDYK Obituary

SONIA FEDYK
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Sonia Fedyk (nee Scobak) passed away peacefully on Friday, October 3, 2025. Born in Fort William on March 26, 1942, she grew up in the East End where she met the love of her life. Andrew and Sonia were married on July 18, 1964 and welcomed their daughters Alison and Karen soon after. She spent her career as a dedicated teacher, first as an itinerant music teacher, then in a classroom until her retirement in 1997. She loved to knit and donated hundreds of mittens to charities, and she took great pride in maintaining her yard and perennial gardens. Mom was a lifelong parishioner of the Church of the Holy Cross and could be heard singing with the choir until her health prevented her from attending. Known to many as "Choch", Sonia is survived by her daughters Alison and Karen, brother Nelson (Cathy) Scobak, sister Marlene Scobak, sister-in-law Jean Stadnyk, Melville, SK, nieces Kim and her children Keiran & Cameron, and Kelly (Joe) & their children Benjamin & Madison, as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Saskatchewan and Alberta. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Andrew and sister Joyce Scobak. We would like to thank the staff at Sister Leila Greco and St. Joseph's Hospital for their exceptional care of our mom over the past four years. Funeral services for Sonia will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at 11am at the Church of the Holy Cross, celebrated by Father Andriy Stetsyk. Interment will take place at Mountainview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and cards, donations to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation would be appreciated.

Karen and Allison, so very sorry about your mom´s passing. I have many memories of visits to your house on Leland, and of course our moms´ "card group". I found this picture when going through my mom´s stuff... some of the card group ladies. Treasure your memories of your mom. Dated 1997.

I have so many great memories of Choch. I met her with Lizzie when we were about 12 or 13 years old. I am so happy I saw her a couple of times this past year.
She will be missed.
