Mr. Edward Stanley Jakubowski, age 93 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away in Thunder Bay Regional on Saturday, November 23, 2013. Edward was born January 1, 1920 in Eastern Poland. In the war he served in the British 8th Army, Second Polish Core in Italy. He came to Canada in 1946 and met Victoria Leitch in Winnipeg. They were married in October, 1948 and moved to Fort William. He worked at various jobs, until taking employment at CPR, then at McKellar Hospital as a Stationary Engineer for 18 years until retirement in 1985. He was a member of IUOE Local #865, member of St. Casimir's Church and a member of the Polish Veterans Royal Canadian Legion Branch #149. He served in various executive positions: Past President, District #8 Deputy Commander, as well as doing general volunteer work around the Legion. He was the chairman of the Metro Council at St. Casimir's Church. Edward was predeceased by his daughter Josephine in infancy; wife Victoria (September, 2010); parents as well as various family members in Poland and Canada. He is survived by his daughter Brenadene (Don) Plumpton of Olive Branch, Mississippi; son Douglas (Laura) of Murillo; grandchildren Jason (Tarrah), Christopher (Erin), Jennifer Cameron (Clinton), Charity, Luke, Lindsay Santas and Brendon Plumpton (Whitney); great grandchildren Anna, Emma, Turk, Claire, Adam, Monica, Alicia, Jordan and Kayla, as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives in Poland and Canada. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 28, 2013, when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Casimir's Church celebrated by Rev. I. Stadler. Interment will follow in St. Andrew's Cemetery. Prayers will be offered on Wednesday evening at 7:45 p.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel. If friends desire, memorials to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Edward Jakubowski in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.
