Steve Kovacs Obituary

Mr. Steve Kovacs Sr. age 89 years, a resident of Hogarth Riverview Manor passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, October 28, 2021. Born on June 7, 1932 in Kapuvar, Hungary, Steve immigrated to Canada in August of 1952. Initially settling in Eastern Ontario, he worked as a farm hand and later drove truck. He then moved to the Thunder Bay area to work in the bush as a tree cutter. On October 3, 1957 he married the love of his life Elizabeth Nagy and they were happily married for 64 years. Steve was a journeyman carpenter by trade with Local 1669 where he worked for over 40 years. Following his retirement Steve worked at Old Fort William as a Master Cooper teaching university students the art of barrel making.

Steve's family and faith were very important to him. He was a hardworking family man, and a long-time member of both St. Patrick's Cathedral and Holy Family Church.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Elizabeth, their three sons: Steve (Sandra), Bob (Michelle) and David (Lianne), grandchildren: Jennifer, Michael, Halen and Ty, great-grandchildren Layla and Mackenzie. He is also survived by his sister Elizabeth and her family in Hungary.

Steve was predeceased by his parents Antal and Elizabeth and brother Antal.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2021 when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral beginning at 11:00 am. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to service time at the church. Interment to follow in St. Andrew's Cemetery.
