ROBERTS
Steven Cecil Roberts (1952-2026) left this world on January 22, 2026. Born in Hamilton, Ontario to Cecil and Joan Roberts (nee Newton). Steve began his culinary and youthful adventures working for the family business, Roberts' Restaurant. He eventually made Thunder Bay his home. Nicknamed "Toad" by Barb, his partner in crime, Steve was known as the trickster and gourmet pizza chef to his friends at Paterson Court. His greatest joys were cooking, sharing his edible creations and making others laugh. Those closest to Steve were the lucky (?) recipients of his writing and candle making skills, as well as his 4:00 a.m. texts with photos of whatever was on the menu that day. Steve rode the buses almost every day, not just to get from A to B, but as much to stay connected with the world outside of Paterson. Steve started conversations easily. He always had stories and a helping hand to offer. Everybody mattered. Although he had a rough couple of years near the end, Steve treasured each day as a gift. He faced every new curve ball with wit, kindness and, of course, by accumulating every kitchen gadget imaginable. Steve leaves behind his sons Colin (Val) and Graeme (Michelle); grandchildren Ben, Lola, John and Mae; his wonderful former partner Julie; his siblings Susan, Linda, Wendy and Wayne; and his best friend Barb.
To quote "The Grateful Dead" (from Truckin'):
Sometimes the light's all shinin' on me Other times I can barely see Lately it occurs to me What a long strange trip it's been.
Not long enough Steve. Know you are deeply loved and sorely missed. We're pretty sure you've already set up your heavenly kitchen. Enjoy!
Cremation has taken place. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, Steve would appreciate donations to a
Charity of Your Choice.
