Storm Matinet Obituary

With heavy hearts and extreme sadness, the family of Storm Matinet announce her passing on January 22, 2022, after a brief illness. Storm was born on March 16, 1993. From that day forward Storm would touch the lives of countless people throughout her life. She made friends wherever she went, and was respected for her honesty, humor and loyalty to her friends and family. As a child, Storm excelled in school and as she grew up her talent for applying make-up highlighted her creativity and ability to see the beauty in everyone and everything around her. Storm is survived by her son, Raiden Hardy (father Shane), who was her pride and joy, and her mom and best friend, Jackie Matinet (Deppy). She is also survived by her father, Robert Meawasige, brother Luke Zoccole and sister April Belmore; Aunties Natalie Matinet (Joey) and Ursula Matinet, Uncles Willie Kwandibens (Kelly), Gordon Matinet and Chris Matinet (Nicole); Kalinda Hardy (Raiden's Grandmother); numerous aunts, uncles and cousins from the Matinet, Kwandibens and Meawasige families. She leaves behind her partner Donny, her friends and chosen family. She was predeceased by her Grandmother Theresa Kwandibens, Grandfather William (Boxcar) Matinet, cousins Darren George and Crystal Towegishig and many other family members and friends. We ask that you honor having known Storm by sharing the memories she left with you, as each memory is part of her legacy. We have all become the keepers of her stories to share with others. Say her name with a smile as this will keep her close in all our hearts and to never be forgotten. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Sargent and Son Funeral Chapel located at 21 North Court Street, Thunder Bay. As per the Ontario Covid-19 regulations, screening and contact information will be completed upon arrival and all guests must wear a mask and maintain physical distancing. Those who are not able to attend may watch the visitation virtually on the Sargent and Son Facebook page. Immediate family will gather on Thursday, January 27, 2022, when Storm will take the final part of her spirit journey and return home to her traditional territory of Whitesand First Nation for interment.

Byron and I would like to express howly deeply sorry we are to your son (whom you loved so dearly), your Mom, the love of your life Don and all your family and friends. Words can not express how sad we are for your incredible loss.

Storm you touched Byron and I so deeply in many ways but mostly for just being you. I will miss your "Hi Karen!" Especially you goodbyes, " Bye guys, Love You!"
You were always so kind, gentle and caring, always worrying about others.

When you came to the country to our home with Don you really shone. You took country road walks, visited the Whitefish River and walked in the dark to see you step dad Leonard he still talks so fondly of that surprise visit. The surprise you left for us which I will cherish forever and still have never moved was a single sticky note that I included here for your legacy of the true Storm and how sweet you were.

No matter who I spoke to you were loved by all as such a nice person.

May you fly high with the eagles and until we meet again rest in peace and know how much you were loved and by so many.
So not goodbye!

So long "Love ya!
Karen and Byron
