Stuart Potan Obituary

Mr. Stuart “Zum” Andrew Potan, 65 years, of Nipigon, Ontario passed away peacefully, with his wife and daughter by his side, on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 in the Toronto General Hospital. Over the years Stuart worked at Multiply Plywood as a lay-up man, ran Potan Bus Lines and owned and operated Potan Gas Bar and Confectionary. He enjoyed hunting and camping, woodworking, crossword puzzles and trips to the Casino. He loved spending time with his family, especially grandchildren and great grandchildren. He helped anyone who needed a hand with whatever it was. He will be missed zooming along on his scooter. Stuart, who cherished life, spent every day of twenty-five years fighting his disease and its effects. Predeceased by his parents – Jeanette and Irvin Potan, by a brother Irvin Jr. and a sister Linda Michelle; he is survived by his wife of thirty-five years Rose Potan (nee Charbonneau) of Nipigon, by four children – Claude (Susan) Baril-Potan of Nipigon, Tracy Vasseur (Mike Metansinine) of Jellicoe, Ontario, Christine White (Ian Nabigon) of Pic River, Ontario and Vanessa Potan (Ryan Pringle) of Lake Helen Reserve, by fourteen grandchildren – Bradley Dumont of Thunder Bay, Terri-Lynn (Josh) Saunders of Black Sturgeon, Cagney Blanchette (Dale Hardy) and Kristin Blanchette both of Nipigon, Michael Metansinine (Chantelle Wawia) of Nipigon, Andrew Metansinine of Jellicoe, William Metansinine of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Weston Metansinine (Sierra Hardy) of Lake Helen, Rye-Ann Metansinine of Jellicoe, Corey Fowler of Lake Helen, Mercedes Hardy of Rocky Bay, Ryan-James Pringle, Billy Pringle and Liam Pringle all of Lake Helen, by thirteen great grandchildren and by eight siblings – Alan (Patty) Odawa, Eileen (Edward) Wawia, Frances (Larry) Hicknell, Marcel (Darlene) Potan, Marilyn Michelle, Inez Michelle (Leo Stewart) and Anita Michelle all of Lake Helen, Laurie (Jim) Keay of Nipigon. Resting at Lake Helen Reserve Resource Centre where friends may call after 4 P.M. on Saturday, December 8, 2018. Prayers will be offered at the Centre at 7 P.M. on Saturday and Sunday evenings. The funeral mass for Stuart Potan will be held on Monday, December 10, 2018 at 11 A.M. at the Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Nipigon with Father H. Augustynowicz officiating. Interment will be in St. Sylvestor's Church Cemetery, Lake Helen Reserve. Arrangements are in the care of Elliott Funeral Home Ltd., Nipigon.
