SUSAN MARLENE BACA (née Bailey) March 11, 1947 - October 29, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, Susan Baca, who left us peacefully on October 29th surrounded by family.
Born on March 11, 1947, to Don and Friede Bailey, Susan lived a life defined by kindness, compassion, and unconditional love. She is survived by her devoted husband Josip (Joe) Baca; her loving children Dan (Debbie), Emma (Dwight Westover), and Kathleen (Kevin Cannon); cherished grandchildren Rikki-Lee, Jake, Dani-Rae, Abbie, Marlo, Ashton, and Colton; and brother Scott.
Susan's family was her most cherished gift and one of the last things she said was that she felt so lucky to be with us. Susan's love was her greatest gift, which extended to a special relationship with her nieces Joanne and Laura, and bestie Evelyne. Always selfless and nurturing, she had a rare ability to make everyone around her feel safe, valued, and loved. Her strength, gentle heart, and kindness will live on through the family she cherished so deeply.
Susan had a true gift for caring, not only as a wife and mother, but throughout her rewarding career as a Registered Nurse, specializing in diabetes education. She supported countless children and expectant mothers with her knowledge, warmth, and compassion, always ensuring they felt seen, understood, and well cared for.
Together, Susan and Joe shared many happy years on their sheep farm, working side by side to build a home filled with laughter, love, and purpose. They also treasured their time at camp, where Susan loved watching Joe fish, and joining him to pick mushrooms and blueberries.
At home, Susan found joy in life's simple pleasures like sitting in her favourite rocker, knitting, cheering for her favourite sports teams, or getting lost in a good book. She shared a deep and special bond with her beloved dog Gryffindor, whom she missed dearly since her passing two years ago.
Susan did not want a formal service. A small private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in Susan's memory may be made to the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society.
Forever loved, forever remembered.
