SYLVIA FLORENCE KOSTECKI February 18, 1939 ~ March 6, 2026
It is with deep sorrow that Sylvia Florence Kostecki (nee Button), age 87 years, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, with her husband by her side. Sylvia was born on February 18, 1939, in Fort William, Ontario. Sylvia attended Fort William Vocational Institute where she was an active member of many clubs and sports teams. She proudly graduated with honours in 1957 as Student Council President. She married her high school sweetheart Alex on September 12,1959.
Sylvia built a life centred around people. Her home was always a welcoming place where family/friends gathered, shared meals and heartfelt conversations which created lasting memories. She treasured time with those she loved and had a natural ability to make everyone feel like part of her extended family.
Professionally, Sylvia worked for many years but her most accomplished vocation was as an independent sales representative specializing in giftware sales. She approached her work with enthusiasm, determination, and a genuine appreciation for the relationships she built with colleagues, clients, and shop owners across Northwestern Ontario. Her friendly spirit and integrity made her well respected in her field.
Sylvia had a lively spirit and a deep appreciation for movement and music. Dancing was one of her great joys. She delighted in square dancing and round dancing, embraced the rhythm of clogging, and especially cherished the graceful flow of ballroom dancing with her husband moments that remained dear to her throughout her life.
An adventurous traveler, Sylvia loved exploring new places and creating memories along the way with Alex. International travel and cruises brought a lifetime of adventure. Florida held a special place in her heart, where she enjoyed many holidays soaking up sunshine, relaxing and meeting up with lifetime friends. She and her family also spent countless years driving across Canada and the United States, towing their trailer and embracing the freedom of the open road. Some of her most treasured moments were spent camping outdoors at Sibley Provincial Park, surrounded by nature, and the people she loved.
Faith was the cornerstone of Sylvia's life. She was deeply involved in her church community her entire life, first at St. Luke's Anglican Church and later at Gathering Table Anglican Church. She participated actively in church life in many ways, offering her time, energy, and care to those around her. Her spirituality and dedication to her church home brought her comfort, joy, and a profound sense of purpose.
Sylvia will be remembered for her kindness, her independence, her sense of adventure, and the deep love she held for family, friends and community. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Sylvia is survived by her husband Alex Kostecki; her daughters Wendy Bell, Charlene Kostecki (Maury), Leanne Barch (John); her grandchildren Maurissa, Janessa, Cassie, Ronan, Jessica and Lauren.
Sylvia was predeceased by her parents Charles and Hilda Button.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to all the health care professionals who assisted her in maintaining her active lifestyle.
