SYLVIA PEDWYSOCKI
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sylvia Pedwysocki our loving mother and Baba on February 16, 2026 (Family Day). Sylvia was born in Insinger, Saskatchewan on October 7, 1933 to loving parents Frank and Mary Chubak. On June 13, 1953 she married Michael, the love of her life. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with their family and close friends before Michael's passing. Michael and Sylvia were blessed with four beautiful children. Sylvia is survived by her children Mary Ann Vic, Michael (Sharon), Brenda Carchidi (Sal Sr.) and Danny (Diane). Also survived by grandchildren Chris and Ashley Vic, Steven and Andrew (Darquise) Pedwysocki, Sal Jr. and Michael (Stacey) Carchidi and great grandchildren Emilie, Hunter, Will, Gage, Isabella and Elliott. She is also survived by her sister Jean Seaman and family and brother Wilf Chubak. Mom always dreamed of becoming a nurse and her wish came true. She nursed at St. Joseph's Hospital for 36 years where she had a fulfilling career caring for her patients, while spoiling them all. On weekends our family would create memories going camping and fishing. Saturday nights were often spent going to the drive-in movies. Mom loved to spend time in her garden and took great pride in the vegetables that she grew. She loved to cook for her family and friends and enjoyed trying out new recipes from her prized collection of cookbooks. She loved being an active member of the Church of the Holy Protection. Mom and her friends spent many enjoyable hours putting on bingos, teas and suppers to raise money for the church. When mom retired from St. Joseph's she enjoyed going swimming with her many new friends, loved to go on bus tours, have monthly lunches with her fellow retired nurses and most of all enjoyed spending time with her family who were very precious to her. Sylvia was predeceased by her husband Michael Pedwysocki, parents Frank and Mary Chubak, father and mother-in-law Daniel and Martha Pedwysocki, sister-in-law Mary Ann Chubak, brother-in-law John Seaman, brother and sister-in-law Walter and Anne Kostantin, nephew Bruce Kostantin and her very special friend Bill Hawryluk. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the 5th Floor staff at Lakehead Manor who provided exceptional care for mom and created a loving family home. She loved you all. Mom always had a smile, kind words and a caring heart for everyone who was fortunate to be a part of her life. Funeral services for the late Sylvia Pedwysocki will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2026 in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, Thunder Bay, ON. A Reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations can be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, Muscular Dystrophy Canada or a
