August 5, 1939 - October 25, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mrs. Carmela Maria Teresa Spina (née Petriella), age 86 years, announces her sudden passing on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
Teresa was born on August 5, 1939, in Circello, Provincia di Campobasso, Italy, and raised in Larino, Provincia di Campobasso. In 1960, she married the love of her life, Pietro "Peter" Spina, and in 1961, she immigrated to Canada to begin a new life together.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Teresa dedicated her life to caring for her family and creating a warm and welcoming home. She was a loyal and loving partner to Pietro, especially in his later years, when she cared for him and ensured he was always surrounded by love and comfort.
Family was at the heart of everything Teresa did. Her happiest moments were those spent with her children and grandchildren, evident by the smile on her face whenever any one of them entered the room. She was truly selfless, always putting the needs and happiness of her loved ones before her own.
Teresa found great joy in gardening, cooking, and family BINGO nights. Her home was the center of countless family gatherings filled with laughter, stories, and the delicious aroma of her homemade Italian dishes. Known for her traditional cooking, Teresa took great pride in ensuring that no one ever left her table hungry.
Teresa is lovingly remembered by her children Joe, Nick, and Rosa (Dominic) Lento; her cherished grandchildren Peter, Robert, Matthew (Madeline), and Nicole; her siblings Iolanda Petriella and Antonio (Anna) Petriella; sisters-in-law Antonia Gallo, Maria (Pardo) Di Base, and Maria La Rocca; as well as numerous other relatives across Canada and Italy.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Pietro "Peter"; her parents Nicolá and Libera Petriella; father-in-law and mother-in-law Giuseppe and Rosa Spina; brother Pepino Petriella; brothers-in-law Michele, Raffaele, Vittorio Spina, Angelo Di Lena, and Nicola Gallo, sister in-laws Josephine and Rosa Spina; nephew Gianluigi Di Lena; and niece Maria Antonietta Di Lena.
Teresa was a longtime and faithful member of the CWL of St. Agnes Church. The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Bayshore and Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for their support in caring for Teresa.
Funeral Services for the late Mrs. Teresa Spina will be held on Thursday October 30 with family and friends gathering in St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church for the Funeral Mass at 12:10pm, celebrated by Rev. Larry Kurec. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held in the Church one hour prior to the service, starting at 11:00am.
Teresa will be forever remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family and friends. Her legacy will live on through the countless memories she created and the love she gave so freely. Should friends so desire, donations made in memory of Teresa to Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James.
