TERESA STORTINI Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Teresa Catherine Stortini (nee Cattani) on July 1, 2024, at the age of 93. Teresa leaves behind her children Virginia (Brad), Mary, Julia (Ray), Andrea (Patrick), and John. She was a very proud grandmother to Billy (Shelby), Haley, Bailey, Jack, Peyton, and James and she loved seeing pictures of great-grandchildren Willie and Wren.

Born and raised in Port Arthur, Ontario, Teresa moved to Schreiber in 1960 after her marriage to Rollie Stortini, where she spent the remainder of her life. Teresa held several jobs before her marriage, working for CanCar in Fort William and at the Parliament buildings in Toronto before moving to Terrace Bay to take up a position as the mill manager's secretary at Kimberly-Clark, a job she left during her pregnancy with her eldest child. Teresa returned to the workforce in 1980, first in a secretarial role and then later as the librarian for the town of Schreiber, a job she absolutely loved.

Teresa will be remembered for her love of family, her generous spirit, her volunteerism, and her strength and tenacity. She found great satisfaction in dedicating herself to her many volunteer positions, among them CWL President, membership on the McCausland Hospital Board, the Schreiber Public Library Board, the Schreiber Historical Society, and the Women Take Heart Committee. Teresa loved sewing and quilting, puttering around her yard, spending her afternoons having coffee while visiting friends, and spoiling her cats with way too many treats. She was a lover of animals all her life, both her own pets and any others who crossed her path.

Teresa was predeceased by her husband Rollie - they had 31 years together before he passed away unexpectedly, years that were filled with raising their five children, building their house, boating on Lake Superior, making wine with their close friends, going on family vacations, and many good times spent with their large extended families. Our mother dearly missed our dad, who she lived without for 33 years before her own passing. Teresa was also predeceased by her grandson Joel; her parents Joe and Mae Cattani; her brothers Harold, Bernard, and Bobby Cattani; her sister Helen Hansen; her much-loved sisters-in-law Rita Scott, Mary Fummerton, Nita Cook, Valeria O'Keefe, Sylvia Stortini (Terrace Bay), Rita Cattani, and Margaret Cattani; her brothers-in-law Vern Hansen, Short Scott, Al Fummerton, Billy Cook, and Naldo Stortini. She also sadly lost her nephews Bill Scott, Gord Fummerton, Mark Fummerton, Dana Cook, and David Stortini. Teresa is survived by her sisters-in-law Toni Cattani and Sylvia Stortini (Sault Ste. Marie), her brothers-in-law Arnie O'Keefe and John Stortini (Sault Ste. Marie), and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Teresa's family would like to thank the nursing staff at McCausland Hospital of Terrace Bay's chronic care facility and Wilkes Terrace for the excellent care they gave our mother over the past 22 months. We will never forget the kindness and compassion you showed to Teresa.

A funeral mass for Teresa will be held at Holy Angels Church in Schreiber at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9. Visitation and prayers will take place at Holy Angels Church on Monday, July 8 from 7-9 p.m. If desired, donations can be made to the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society, to McCausland Hospital in Terrace Bay, or to a Charity of Your Choice.

"May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand." Godspeed, mom.

So very sorry to learn about Teresa's passing. I knew her first as a parent to the Stortini brood, later as a passionate member of the Schreiber Library Board. Her calm presence, her community sense and her endless service remain as a lasting memory.

Though I grew up in Terrace Bay I never knew you mom.
However as a Wilkes Terrace volunteer I got to know her and we grew close. A very sweet lady with a big heart and soft loving nature. She will be greatly missed.I will never forget her and she has a special place in my heart. My condolences to the whole family. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I met Teresa in 1987 when she hired me as a student at the library, I stayed 22 years at the library, she stayed in my heart forever.
Hands down the best boss I ever had, but so very much more... my "work mom" and a cherished friend. Always ready with whatever was needed be it a helping hand, a hug, sage advice, a listening ear, or a laugh.
She led us by being the very best example, even through the heartbreaking unexpected loss of her beloved Rollie she showed us with her calm strength how to handle what life threw at you good or bad.
One of the strongest and most beautiful people I´ve been blessed enough to call my friend.
Thoughts and prayers to all her family and friends at this difficult time.
Rest easy beautiful lady. XOXO
