TERESA TREMONTI Obituary

TERESA TREMONTI, beloved mother
It is with great, profound sadness that the family of Teresa Tremonti announce her peaceful passing, with family by her side, on Thursday, November 28, 2024. She is survived by her children Letizia, Luca, Linda, daughter-in-law Anna, and sister Anna Acierno. Teresa was born in Avella, province di Avelino, Italy on May 25, 1940. Teresa came to Canada in 1960. She spent New Year's Eve below deck crossing the ocean and even though she had severe sea sickness, she made it to the top deck to see the New Year's Eve fireworks. Once she landed in Halifax, she made her way across Canada by train and came to Fort William. Imagine travelling 7500 km from Avella to Fort William, and meeting her husband, Carlo, who arrived 3 years earlier (1957), after travelling 7,000 km from Lorenzago di Cadore, Italy. Fate brought them together. In 1973 our family moved to the States where Teresa would be closer to her beloved brother, our dear uncle Johnny and family. Tragedy struck when he had an accident at work and succumbed to his injuries. Teresa was devasted and mourned her brother's passing for the next 51 years. Teresa was very self-motivated. While living in New Jersey, Teresa learned how to drive, received her driver's licence and went to work at a jean factory. The family moved to Ocala, Florida in 1976, just in time to attend the Bicentennial- it was a great spectacle to behold. In January, 1979, our family moved back to Thunder Bay. To say Teresa was an amazing seamstress is an understatement. Teresa worked at Dresswell Dry Cleaners for almost 20 years. She could fix/sew almost everything and anything. Her reputation was legendary; many people sought her out, and she was always very happy to help. Teresa was always trying to better herself and enrolled in a night time class to learn to how to read and write English. One more example of her self-motivation. Teresa especially enjoyed reading about the Royal family. Teresa was a proud member of the Società Italiana Principe Di Piemonte Ladies Auxiliary and was a long-time member of St. Dominic's CWL, recently receiving her 40-year pin. For many years Teresa would pick up her sister-in-law and go to McDonald's for coffee. They were regulars at the 10:00 crowd. Every Wednesday for years, Teresa would pick up another dear friend and go to Intercity for coffee, conversation, catching up and of course shopping. Teresa had a big heart and helped so many people. If they were down, Teresa would always do her best to cheer them up. She was predeceased by her parents, Giovanni and Anna Acierno, husband Carlo Tremonti, brother Johnny Acierno, sister-in-law Natalie Acierno, sister Caroline Napolitano and brother-in-law Luigi Napolitano, niece Anna Acierno, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gastone and Fedora Tremonti. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Dominic's Church, celebrated by Rev. Michael Mahoney. Visitation will be held one hour prior in the Church. A private family interment will take place at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay would be greatly appreciated.
