Thelma St. Cyr Obituary

Ms. Thelma Clara May St. Cyr, age 66 years, of 1209 E. Victoria Avenue, passed away peacefully at her residence on Saturday, April 26, 2003.Born in Gogama, Ontario, Thelma came to Port Arthur as a young woman. She was employed as a Cookee at various bush camps and later as a waitress in local restaurants. Mom was best known for her love and generosity to those in need, especially to children, and over past Christmas's, bought gifts for many children and played Santa, but her main interests were her home and family. During the past few years, much of Thelma's life was focused on attending university where she was recognized for her intelligence as well as her passion for learning more about Aboriginal issues and was proud of her Mohawk Heritage. Thelma practiced traditional customs through smudging, and shared this gift with her family, spent many summers harvesting sage.Thelma s survived by her three children: Janey (Victor) Puurula of Sunshine, ON, Darren (Marianne) Borg and Darcia Lin Borg (Scott Panasyk) all of Thunder Bay; four grandchildren: Elias and Emily Puurula, Jessica Green-Borg and Ashley Borg (Adrian Hagar); one brother Robert (Mona) St. Cyr; three sisters Dolores (Reg) Arnberg, Judy St. Cyr and Gail St. Cyr all of Thunder Bay. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by her parents Jerome and Clara; step-father John Viiala; brother Orville St. Cyr and nephew Brian St. Cyr.According to Thelma's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, April 30th at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Traditional Healer Alfred Henderson and presided by Rev. Gerald McDougall, SJ of Kitchitwa Kateri Roman Catholic Church. As expressions of Sympathy, donations may be made in Thelma's memory to the Thunder Bay Community Residence or to the Thunder Bay Food Bank."
