Theodore (Ted) Anselm Pile, 62, passed away peacefully in the presence of family at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on February 18, 2025. The youngest of four boys, Ted was born on May 1, 1962, in Geraldton, Ontario, to Eileen and Herbert (Herb) Pile. He attended Geraldton Public School and graduated from Geraldton Composite High School (GCHS). His love of nature and the outdoors was evident at an early age and would underscore a lifelong passion of respecting and protecting the environment at work and at play. Ted worked at various occupations in various places, even venturing west to the oil patch, but Geraldton was always home. A career highlight was his work for the Ministry of Natural Resources, fighting fires. His navigational skills and local knowledge were invaluable. Ted's affinity with land around him became central to a career in environmental testing and monitoring, first for the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO), and later for Greenstone Gold Mines. Ted also served as a Councillor for the MNO. In many ways, Ted's profound love of nature encapsulated a free and adventurous spirit that was always on display as a young man, Father, Grandfather and family philosopher. He was a gentle soul with a great love of people and an inquiring mind about our world and our place in it. Ted was an excellent hockey player and loved playing golf. Watching his grandchildren play hockey brought him great joy, and he scheduled his life around their tournaments. Ted was a naturalist at heart, an avid reader of current events and a fan of the Weather Channel. Spending time outdoors filled his soul, as did his home at Wildgoose Lake. Here, at his sauna or out on the lake fishing, Ted found solace and peace. He and his wife Joanne built their life here, surrounded by the forest and the sound of loons. Ted is survived by his loving wife, Joanne Camire-Pile; his children, Michelle (Chris) and Amanda (Brett); his stepdaughter, Crystal (Andrew); his mother, Eileen Pile; and his brothers, Tyrone, and Timothy. His grandchildren - Danielle, Noah, Mackenzie, Amelia, Hayden, and Avery - were his world. Ted was predeceased by his father, Herb (2000), his brother, Terrance (2021), and his beloved dog, Zoey. Ted was described as an angelic child by his mother and mischievous by his brothers. He was always approachable and could talk to anyone. Ted had a gift for practical jokes and a talent for uniting people through laughter and music, never shying away from showing off dance moves even in his final days. Generous and kind, he was loved and adored in return. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, especially those on 2C, for their care and service. In lieu of flowers, please take a moment to appreciate nature, share a laugh, have a sauna (if you can), and be kind to one another - just as Ted always was. Donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Arrangements entrusted to EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.
