March 3, 1918 - January 20, 2014 Mr. Thomas Harry Pickering, age 95 years, passed away peacefully in Thunder Bay Health Sciences Centre on Monday, January 20, 2014. Tom was born on March 3, 1918 in Port Arthur, Ontario to Harry and Ada Pickering. He met the love of his life, Violet and they were married on June 14, 1941. Tom worked as a Stationary Engineer with the Lakehead Board of Education until retirement. He had a passion for the outdoors, fishing and hunting as well as spending time at his camp on Lake Superior. Tom also enjoyed sports, especially Hockey and Curling. He was a long time member of Trinity United Church, the Independent Order of Oddfellows Lodge #244 and was one of the organizers of the Oliver Road Recreation Association. Thomas is survived by his daughters, Dianne (Gerry) Boulay and Brenda (Jim) Rieger; grandchildren Scott (Pam) Danelisky, Mark (Karen) Danelisky, Jennifer (Pete) Hedderly, Jackie (Wallie) Leary and Jeff (Alana) Boulay; great-grandchildren Megan Danelisky, Noah Danelisky, Melissa Matson, Nicholas Matson, Katie (Emerson) Fotherby, Kris Hedderly, Olivia Boulay, Liam Boulay and Keelan Leary. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. He was predeceased by his wife, Violet Rose as well as his parents and siblings. Funeral Services for the late Mr. Thomas Pickering will be held on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 1:00PM in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma. Private interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to service time.
