Tigus Olesky Obituary

November 24, 1921 - January 4, 2014 The family of Tigus (Tony) Olesky, age 92 years, is saddened to announce his passing on Saturday, January 4, 2014 peacefully at his residence. Born in Fort William on November 24, 1921, Mr. Olesky was employed by Hawker Siddeley as a Quality Control Inspector for the Hawker Hurricane Program. After WWII, he partnered with his sister to open the K&O store in Geraldton, Ontario and was a partner in Kent Signs. Tony had a life-long interest and love of construction and building. He worked in the housing boom of the 1960's, becoming Contract Division Manager of Mayotte Construction Ltd. After acquisition of the company by Nu-West Corporation, he was appointed General Manager for Construction - Northern Ontario. Over his career, Tony served on the boards of various local and national companies. He served as Director and Secretary Treasurer of the Construction Association of Thunder Bay and was a member of the Canadian Home Builders Association. Mr. Olesky briefly left retirement from Nu-West to work with the Ontario New Homes Warranty Program. He also served on the Board of Directors of Thunder Bay District Housing Authority and Alpha Court and was a member of the Carpenters Apprenticeship Advisory Board at Confederation College. A 33rd Degree Mason, Mr. Olesky was a member of Connaught Lodge 511, the Scottish Rite and Lakehead Shrine Club. Tony was predeceased by his wife, Lillian; step-son David Kozar; parents William and Mary Olesky and sisters Anna, Josephine and Jean. He is survived by his son William (Lois); daughter-in-law Elaine Kozar; grandson Kevin (Amy) Kozar and granddaughter Allison Mason as well as four great-grandchildren. Funeral Services for the late Mr. Tigus Olesky will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 12:30PM in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James. Interment will take place in Mountainview Cemetery prior to the service. A Masonic Lodge Service held under the auspice of Connaught Lodge A.F. & A.M. #511 will be held in conjunction with the funeral.
