TIM FENTON Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Tim Fenton announces his passing on November 18th, 2023 at the age of 69, after a courageous battle with ALS.

Tim was born October 18th, 1954 in Fort William to Lorne and Evelyn Fenton. He attended St. Elizabeth School, Selkirk High School and George Brown College. He started working at McDonalds Consolidated and then became a Sheet Metal Worker. He worked his way from the tools to the office becoming a well-respected, no-nonsense Business Manager at Local 397 and then the Ontario Conference, where he went to bat for anyone who was a 'tin basher'. Tim was so proud of the work he did and developed many lifelong friendships throughout his time there. He left a great legacy at the union for the next generation. Tim aka 'Moose' grew up on Selkirk St. with his two brothers, Jack and Jim. In his early years, Tim worked on a team with the late Matty at Mosquito Raceway and travelled to many races throughout the states. He loved riding dirt bikes and moose hunting with the boys before he became a family man.

He truly was the best husband and father and always put us first. He was there for all of our activities and life events and was so proud of us. Dad loved drinking red wine, cranking galaxy hits in the living room, golfing, sudokus, and crib (skunked us all, all the time, stealing points because he could), a straight up numbers guy, and the smartest guy in the room. He knew everything about everything, he was just that kind of guy. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, whether it was firing up the chainsaw, swinging the hammer, or talking to the neighbours - he was always there, and boy did he ever love talking. Timmy was always good for a funny chirp and he made you laugh instantly. At parties, more often than not, you would find him cutting up a rug on the dancefloor. His job brought him many places including the move to Guelph in 2005 until 2021. Many great memories were made at 7 Miller Street. Tim and Nancy valued spending time together, at camp and especially on their numerous trips. Tim also loved playing shuffle board following his retirement, watching the Blue Jays, spending time at camp at Amethyst Harbour and walking Boulevard.

Tim will be lovingly remembered by his wife Nancy (née Pyatt), daughter Jenny, sons Michael (Tara), Mitchell, brother Jimmy (Rina), Brother-in-law Nelson (Kathie) Pyatt, as well as numerous extended family members, dear friends and pets Tia and Tuxy. He was predeceased by his parents Lorne and Evelyn Fenton and his brother Jack Fenton.

Friends are invited to join Tim's family in celebrating his life at the Da Vinci on Wednesday, November 29th, 2023, from 12-3pm where words of tribute will be offered at 1pm. Because of Dad's lifelong commitment to the trades, we wish anyone who desires to make a donation in lieu of flowers to a fund that has been established for a graduating student who is pursuing a trade. Donations can be made payable to Tim Fenton Memorial Scholarship - Lakehead District School Board Scholarship Fund - 2135 Sills St., Thunder Bay, ON, P7E 5T2 to the attention of Michele Smykalski or by calling 807-625-5168.

We are so lucky we had him for a dad and husband, it is going to be tough without Timmy around. Please convince your kids to get into the trades, he gave us the best life because of it. We love you, miss you and will always remember you.

Arrangements are in care of the Sargent & Sons Funeral Directors, 21 N. Court Street.

As children, we lived across the street from each other in Port Arthur. Tim was always light of step and spirit. He is remembered fondly.

Tim was such a funny and kind man. I always enjoyed his company when I´d be over at the Fentons whether that was in Tbay, out at camp or in Guelph. He was truly a great role model to his kids and loving husband to Nancy. He will be missed by many. Sending love to the entire family and thinking of you all

We want to thank you Tim, you and family have made us feel welcome, as we moved in. We will always remember your curiosity and willingness to help out a neighbour, while we tried to put up our car port, giving sage advice, and sharing a laugh with you. Your kindness and generosity with sharing your knowledge was always appreciated, so much so that one of us in now in a trade!

Knew Tim from the time he was young. The three brothers lived across from Selkirk HS ( now St. Pats) and now two are gone. Tim did very well in his careers. I knew Jack and Jim better but followed all of them to a degree as I am writing a short book about our neighbour hood which includes the Fentons. Condolences to Tim´s family.
