TIMOTHY NIEMI Obituary

NIEMI
It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Timothy Edward Niemi on October, 16th, 2024, at age 70.

Tim was born to Kosti and Veronica Niemi on October, 24th, 1953 in Port Arthur, Ontario. The second oldest of six children. A proud descendent of Algonquin and Finnish ancestry; a self-proclaimed Findian.

Tim's fondness for the outdoors started when he was a young boy playing near the McIntyre River with his older brother. He would also frequent his grandfather's property in Devon Township with his parents and siblings where they would "bomb around" the country roads on all the best toys. This was a tradition that Tim carried on with his own children which resulted in the most fond and cherished memories. He also enjoyed spending time at Rudge Lake with family, and was an avid fisherman.

As a child Tim attended Pine Street School and later on Hillcrest High School. After High School he went on to work at his father's garage where he established himself as a dedicated and hard working man. He acquired various skills and his passion for tinkering and working on cars made him a gifted mechanic throughout his life. Tim later began a career in forestry working as a chipper operator. He was employed by Renewable Forest Products and took immense pride in his job.

Tim is survived by six children Candace, Eric (Samantha), Autumn (Brandon), Amber (Rick), Grace (Shayne), Molly; numerous grandchildren; and siblings Nancy Magi, Susan Hall, and Terry Niemi. He is predeceased by his father Kosti Niemi, mother Veronica Niemi, brother Thomas Niemi, and sister Alice Niemi. Family was very important to Tim and he remained close with relatives to the best of his ability.

Tim was a hardworking and caring man who remained true to himself. He will be remembered for his goofy and lighthearted sense of humour, his passion for muscle cars, motorcycles and watching football. He was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Tim was a very lucky man and his winning streaks over the decades were something that made him truly a special person. His unwavering connection to nature and wildlife is something he held dear to his heart and instilled this in his children.

Timothy had an obsession for freedom of the open road and adrenaline no one could deny. His love and passion and some would say even obsession for cars and motorcycles began at a young age and was passed onto him from other family members. Throughout his life he was the proud owner of many classic cars and frequented antique car clubs in Thunder Bay. Some of his favourite "toys" included a 1969 Dodge Charger R/T, a 1966 Dodge Coronet and other muscle machines.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all of the first responders of Thunder Bay. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Adult & Teen Challenge of Thunder Bay.

Pain is not a competition, There are no winners when it comes to suffering. We're all in this together, In this growing and in this recovering. - P.Bodi

Sad to hear of Tim´s passing
Tim and his family were neighbours on Johnson ave for a number of years,
He sure loved his cars cleaning tinkering with them on a Saturday afternoon.
I was lucky enough to get that adrenaline rush for speed and headed out on the open road with his dodge charger he sure loved fast cars
