It is with much sadness the family of Valma Sandra Lacroix (Tervo) announce her peaceful passing on January 15, 2026 at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre after following a courageous battle with ALS.
Valma was born February 14, 1955 to parents Lily & Carl Tervo in Beardmore, ON. In 1957, the family relocated to Port Arthur, ON. She grew up on Queen St. and went on to live a good life filled with camping, fishing, sunny days, and travelling with family and friends.
After graduating from Grade 12, Valma pursued work at a remote camp in Sioux Narrows, ON, where she met Eddie Morris. They soon married and relocated to Winnipeg to pursue their careers. Sadly, Eddie passed away unexpectedly in November 1987. Valma returned to Thunder Bay to begin a new chapter. She returned to college and found employment in administrative roles within predominant industries, eventually retiring after 20 years of dedicated service at Wesway Thunder Bay.
In time, a very handsome man caught her attention Denis, a dear family friend. Their connection grew, and they were married on August 4, 2001. Valma and Denis built a beautiful life together, both pursuing careers they enjoyed, creating a comfortable family home, and travelling often. They loved spending summers at the lake, enjoying their camp at Lac des Mille Lacs, and escaping the cold NWO winters with numerous trips to Cuba.
Valma kept busy with crocheting and reading, always with a book on the go. She was a great fan of hockey, with the Winnipeg Jets being her favourite team. Valma took pride in her culinary skills and was the go-to expert when it came to filleting fish.
Valma was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Lily Tervo; her first husband, Eddie; her niece Christine; her sister Anita; her nephew Bradley; her lifelong best friend Teri; including other family and friends.
Valma is survived by her loving husband, Denis Lacroix; her beloved dog Patches; her stepchildren; her granddaughter Arly; her sister Sonja; her godson Tim; numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews; the Lacroix, Tervo, McLean, Grenier, Laukka and Morris families; and dear friends Colleen and Angela.
In keeping her wishes cremation has taken place and no funeral service will be held.
A huge sincere and heartfelt thank you to all the family and friends who supported her during this challenging illness. All of you truly brightened her days. We wish to thank Dr. C. Moorhouse for his compassion and care including the staff at St. Joseph's Care Group on 4 North and staff at TBRHSC in unit 3C.
Donations in Valma's memory can be made to ALS Canada or Wesway.
