Mr. Veikko Donald Niittynen, age 74 years, a resident of Kaministiquia, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 18th, 2014, on the same homestead where he was born and raised.Veikko was born on June 8th, 1940 in Port Arthur and started working at the tender age of 14; driving truck. His first load of wood from Silver Falls to Port Arthur was the start of his lifelong career as a driver/ owner and private contractor alongside his sons. Veikko had a special talent of operating anything that could move. Equipment operation was a challenge which he mastered. He spent many years with Kam Aggregates. His talent as a sawyer will be greatly missed in the community. His family was his pride and joy. He was a warmhearted person who always had an ear to listen and to fill. He was never in a hurry. When he wasn't with his family, he could be found tinkering and helping neighbors in the community or just visiting and having a good cup of coffee. He enjoyed the outdoors. Hunting, fishing and farming were also his passions. There were always some strays he would bring home; either two or four legged.
