Velma Abdulla Obituary

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Velma. She passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 24, 2018 while residing at Southbridge Lakehead LTC. Velma was born May 2, 1933 to Alice and Richard Schutte.  She began her career at Safeway and made many friends there. A devoted mother to Michael and Donna Zawacki, as well as a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She is also survived by two brothers and a sister. Velma enjoyed knitting and made beautiful knitted items for family and friends. She loved a good game of bingo and could be found at the Elks bingo hall on Wednesday evenings when able. Predeceased by her mother and father, daughter Patti Howard and sister Pearl McGowan. Velma has been cremated and a private celebration of life will take place this spring, when Velma will be laid to rest by her beloved daughter Patti. In lieu of flowers, those who so desire may make donations to Southbridge Lakehead LTC, 135 S Vickers Street. The family of Velma are so grateful to the wonderful staff of Southbridge Lakehead for the excellent care our mother received from the dedicated, caring staff. Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 332 North May Street, Thunder Bay.

I worked with Velma many years ago at Safeway in the meat department. It was my first job and she helped in so many ways. We sure had many laughs and she told so many stories. She was a delightful lady. May she rest in peace.

Velma, we had so many good times together for the five years my mom lived at the home and oh the laughs we had every day and the conversations about family and love and marriage. You became my family during that time and I will always cherish the daily precious moments spent with you. Rest now you earned it. We will meet again over the Rainbow. Love Janice
