It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mom Victoria Vezina at the age of 96, in her daughter's home on May 17, with family by her side. Victoria's current residence was the P.R. Cook Apartments at St. Joseph's Heritage. She was one of the first tenants of the apartments which opened in 1979. She told people she was happy living there, had no complaints and that everyone treated her well. Due to ill health mom recently moved into the home of her daughter Patricia and son-in-law Steve. Born and raised in International Falls, MN on December 16, 1916 to the late George and Katherine Gable. Victoria graduated from Falls High School. She married Kenneth Vezina on June 29, 1937 in International Falls and moved to Port Arthur, ON shortly after. Victoria was a member of Corpus Christi Church, C.W.L., and the Ladies Auxilary of the Branch No.5 Royal Canadian Legion. Church and family were very important to her. Victoria was very active in Tai-chi, bowling, and enjoyed playing cards with her lady friends. She worked as a cook at Central Park Lodge and later retired as a cook at St. Joseph's Heritage. In her earlier years she was employed at Woolworth's and Zellers. Besides her parents George and Katherine Gable, Victoria was predeceased by her husband Ken, son Jerry, brothers John and Joe, sisters: Josephine, Helen and Clara, great grandson Ryan Miller, great granddaughter Natasha Commisso, as well by numerous in-laws both here and in the United States. Victoria will be missed by her children Kenny (Pat), Audrey (Bob) Young, Patricia (Steve) Shewchuk and Kathy Wood, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, in-laws Pat Gable of San Diego, CA, Ozzie and Retta Vezina, Melton and Francis Vezina, Hilda Castonguay and Bunny Massaro. Numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives both here and in the United States also survive. She was god mother to Cheryl Rossetti and Teddie Castonguay. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass beginning at 10:30 am at Corpus Christ R.C. Church , Celebrated by Rev. Richard Kowalchuk. Interment will be held at St. Patrick's Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday evening (TONIGHT) from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the New Chapel (next door) of the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street, with a Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 pm. Should friends desire memorial donations to the charity of one's choice would be appreciated.On-line condolences may be made at
