VILMA SEKULICH Obituary

Mrs. Vilma (Wilma) Sekulich, age 95, of Thunder Bay, passed away Wednesday morning, February 5, 2025, at the Regional Hospital. She was born to the late Ludovico and Giovanna Bottos. Mom was proudly a Westfort girl for almost her entire life. Her latter years were spent at Sister Leila Greco apartments where she had a wonderful view of Mt. McKay which she referred to as her mountain.

Vilma was preceded in death by her husband and best friend of over 50 years, Edward Sekulich; three treasured sisters, Alma Elvish, Rene Adams, and Elsie Matis, her husband's dear sister Helen (Peter) Shchepanik and her husband's brother John, lovingly remembered as Sonny.

Vilma is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Galpin (Alan) of Coquitlam, B.C., Jo-Anne Macko (Mike) of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Nina Carpenter (David) of Duvall, Washington; grandchildren Kevin Macko (Marcela), Ken Macko (Musarrat), Cassie Galpin (Kevin), Paige Galpin (Jesse), Ben, Matt, and Liam Carpenter; sister-in-law Dodie Sekulich; nieces and nephews Deb, John, Paula, Sandra, Jodi, Vita, Becky, Marla, Rick, Paul, Helen Marie and Tony; and, numerous cousins and other relatives throughout the world.

Vilma was loved, cherished and treasured by her family. Her compassionate way of listening and providing wise counsel were some of many of her endearing qualities. Our mother also loved to read; one of her favourite poets was Helen Steiner Rice. In honour of her memory as a wonderful mother and grandmother, we share this poem with those who understand what it means to have such a wonderful mother grace their lives.

"A mother's love is something that no one can explain - It is made of deep devotion and of sacrifice and pain. It is endless and unselfish and enduring, come what may, For nothing can destroy it or take that love away. It is patient and forgiving when all others are forsaking, And it never fails or falters even though the heart is breaking."

~Helen Steiner Rice
We will all truly miss you, Nona.
A private interment with be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers and if you so wish, mom would have liked it if you chose a local Charity of Your Choice.
