SHANKS
It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Viola Shanks, age 97 years, on Monday, January 12, 2026. She was born March 27, 1928 in Fort William to Alex and Saimi Birch. She is survived by her loving daughters, Morna (Harry) Toderash, Leslie (Ron) Lalime; grandchildren, Courtney and Lindsay Toderash, Alexander and Zachary (Cassie) Lalime, great grandchildren, Grayson and Zavier. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, Hector in 2017, her brother, Daniel (Elsie) and sister, Lily (Jack), brothers-in-law, James (Norma), Bill (Helen), Donald, and sisters-in-law, Nancy (Jack) Latimer, Etta (Arthur) Prouty, and Norma Barnsely. She was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. Cremation has taken place. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Thank you to the staff of Southbridge-Pinewood Blue Heron unit for their kind and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Thunder Bay Regional Cancer Centre or St. Andrew's Presbyterian church would be appreciated.
