With great sadness Vito Amato, 61 years of age, passed away peacefully at the TBRHSC on Tuesday February 14, 2006, with his family by his side. Vito was born March 16, 1944 in San Vitaliano, Napoli, Italy. At the age of 19 he moved to Canada and found the love of his life and on August 5, 1967, married Rosetta Maria Arnone. He is survived by his wife, Rosa of 38 years and his 4 children Gianna, Teresa (Paul Ivanore), Nancy (fiancé Joao Neves), and Salvatore (Lisa). Also survived by sister Rosa (Pietro Sorrentino), brothers Antonio (Guiseppina), Saverio (Concetta), and Giovanni, sister-in-laws, Immacolata (Pierre Raby), Carmen (Sam Barber), Antonietta (Guiseppe Pacchiano) and brother-in-law, Felix Arnone. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews in Italy and Canada in which he loved dearly. He was predeceased by his father, Salvatore Amato and his mother, Giovannina Sasso, father-in-law, Enrico Arnone and mother-in-law, Maria Arianna, and inlaws, Rosa Sorrentino and Domenico Arnone and nephew Richard Raby. Over the years, Vito had numerous jobs working as a Journeyman Machinist and currently was employed at Fairbarn's Machine Shop. He was a dedicated active member and councilman of the Societa Italiana Di Benevolenza Principe Di Piemonte Society and an active member of the Italian Cultural Society of Port Arthur. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, playing cards, Bingo, and spending time with his family and friends and his quaker parrot "Trisquit". The family would like to thank Dr. Decker, Dr. Bon and Dr. Boake and the several nurses and staff at the ICU ward of the TBRHSC for making his last days comfortable. Visitation for friends will be held in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 North Court Street on Thursday February 16th from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. with a Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday February 17th at 9:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's R.C. Church celebrated by Rev. Lino Santi C.S. A private interment will follow in St. Andrew's Cemetery.
