WALTER DUCZEMINSKI Obituary

WALTER JOSEPH DUCZEMINSKI May 15, 1933 - December 21, 2025
On Sunday, December 21, 2025, Walter Duczeminski our much-loved Husband, Father, Grandfather and great-Grandfather passed away peacefully at the age of 92. Walter was born in Pipestone, Manitoba to John and Josephene Duczeminski. As a young child his family moved to Red Lake, Ontario where he enjoyed a childhood of fishing and playing hockey. His hockey prowess took him to Red Rock, Ontario where he met and married Joan McKenzie in 1959. Walter will be remembered for his love of photography and his lifelong passion for anything hockey, whether it was watching it on TV, playing it first as a child and then as a young man and finally coaching his son and following his grandchildren. Walter's other passion was the family camp he and Joan purchased in 1969 at Stewart Lake. The camp was a second home and a hotspot for gatherings including family reunions and countless other special functions. Mostly though, Stewart Lake was a retreat where Walter and Joan could gather their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to enjoy "life at the lake". Walter was predeceased by his parents John and Josephene Duczeminski, his sister Jean Duczeminski and many other beloved family and friends. Walter will be deeply missed and remembered by his wife Joan, his son David (Susan), daughters Alison (Martina Stotter) and Cheryl (Jim Hendricken); grandchildren Erica (Paul Tyne), Jenna, Sarah (Eric Altree), Benjamin (Olivia Zeleny), and Samuel; great-grandchildren Ethan, Findley, and Josie. Also survived by his brother Joe (Judy) Duczeminski and brother in-law Gordon McKenzie and families, as well as other extended family. Thanks to the many people who enriched dad's life over the years and especially to the staff of Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation for his care in his final weeks. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
