WALTER MALCHUK Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Walter Malchuk announces his passing on Wednesday, February 14th at the age of 87. He was born in Fort William (Thunder Bay) to Marian and Maria Malczuk. A graduate of Lakehead University, he enjoyed his 36 plus year career with the Federal Public Service (National Employment Service), retiring in 1996 as the Area Manager, Thunder Bay District, Human Resources Development Canada.

Walter lived a full life centered around his family. He is survived by his cherished wife and best friend, Margot (nee Anderson), his two daughters (his angels) Jo-Anne (David Bettio) and Jennifer. Walter treasured his grandchildren Nathan, Claire, Jordan and Matthew and was very proud of their accomplishments. He will also be greatly missed by his sister, Stella Nieckarz, Niece Danita (Randy Haber) and nephew Ed (Tracey Nieckarz) and their families. Walter was predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law, Ed Nieckarz Sr. who he always considered to be a true brother.

Walter lived most of his life in Thunder Bay and enjoyed 20 summers at (West) Loon Lake. In 2000, he and Margot moved to Briar Hill (Alliston, ON) in order to be near to their daughters and grandchildren.

As per Walter's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Matthews House Hospice in Alliston, or to a Charity of Your Choice.

Having worked 15 years for Walter, I got to know him as a kind and very generous man.
In today's work environment Walter was unique in that he managed with his heart and prioritized the well being of people above all else.
We travelled throughout NW Ontario together, during which he would share existential theories with me.
'Herve', he would say, 'life is like a book'.
'You keep turning the pages until you get to the last one'.
Well my friend, what a lovely book you have left us all.
To Margot, Jo-Anne and Jennifer, please accept the expression of my most sincere condolences on the loss of your devoted husband / father.

We remember so many wonderful things about Walter: his amazing smile, his incredible laugh, always so jovial but his love for his family was number 1.
