WALTER GEORGE “MAX” MAYBRODA has moved on to the big Rendezvous. Walter passed on December 29th, 2017 with family by his side at the age of 77. He was born on February 11, 1940 and grew up in the East End of the city now known as Thunder Bay.
Maxie started a family with his wife Judy Barnes and lived in Current River for nine years before building a beautiful home for their family in Murillo across from his brother John. The last fifteen years of his life were spent at 332 Dawson St. where upon moving in he promptly started reconstructing. After several different jobs Walter settled into work for Abitibi, first in the bush camps and then for many years at the Fine Papers Mill. Dad enjoyed curling and bowling and formed many lifelong friendships both at work and leisure.
Walter was a master mechanic, upholsterer, carpenter, brick layer, garage, barn and dog house builder. He was also a gardener, blacksmith, farmer, welder and craftsman who occasionally found time to fish at Twin and other choice spots. A proud lifelong member of the Neebing Voyageur Brigade, he participated in many Rendezvous and enjoyed nothing better than raising a tin cup with good friends at the fire. Max enjoyed many canoe trips with friends and continued to make wine and other delicacies right to the end. Spending time at Watcomb Lake with Bob and other friends always held a special place in his heart.
Predeceased by parents Walter and Eva Maybroda and wife Judy (nee Barnes). Survived by brother John Maybroda, sister Mary Ann Maybroda, son Paul Maybroda, daughter Dawn Krawczuk, son Randy Maybroda (Anna) and grandchildren Jacob Krawczuk (Becky), Madeline Krawczuk (Mitchell), Micaela Krawczuk and Sam Krawczuk.
The family would like to thank Ethel for her unfailing friendship and support, Dr. S. Kennedy for years of thorough medical care accompanied by good humour and respect, and the staff of St. Joe's Hospital for their compassion and kindness.
A celebration of life will be held at Shooters Tavern on Wednesday January 10th at 4pm. In lieu of flowers donations would be appreciated to a charity of your choice.

Wally, you were always so kind to us. You shared your tipi and inspired me to make my own. You were there in the Golden age of Rendezvous. And you brought your own expertise, good will, sense of fun and kindness to it. Peace and Love to you. Remembered always, Dan and Sue

Chris and I would like to extend our condolences to the Maybrota family. We have many fond memories of Wally and his antics from the many rendezvous that we participated in. His hospitality and wit were unmatched. We admired his zest for life, whether it be from attending a rendezvous or fishing up north. We also admired all of his handiwork as a skilled craftsman in many areas! We are treasuring all the memories and good times shared.

Paul, Randy, Dawn and the rest of the Family, our deepest condolences on the passing of Wally. Believe it or not, his patience and friendship he extended to me despite being in the same age group as his sons, was very appreciated. He never failed to offer me a Northern out of his fridge in the backyard, or from his "Fur Pack" cooler at his teepee when rendezvous-ing. A man and a memory that will truly stay with me. To Walter.

Our condolences. We had a lot of fun and learnt lots from Wally over the years. I still make his Kapushka (not sure of spelling, but it's canned cabbage with lots of onions, peppers and some carrots). It's a wonderful side dish - or sausage topping. He was very patient and proud to share his knowledge.
Great memories!

I was sorry to hear of Wally's passing, but so glad to have met him. Camping with him at rendezvous as an adopted member of the Naval Brigade. When I was all packed up he would ask if I could stay for one more cold one.
