WARREN GOODWIN Obituary

Warren J Goodwin of Thunder Bay and former longtime resident of Atikokan, ON passed away on October 7th, 2025 at the age of 95. He was born in Ethelbert, MB on July 26th, 1930 and was the youngest of Clayton and Pearl Goodwin's four boys. In August 1943 the family moved to Atikokan. It was here Warren met Lois McAuley and they were married in Atikokan on October 16th, 1954. Warren had an interesting employment history, starting out at Steep Rock Iron mine in Atikokan where he met Lois, and then moving on to a manager position at the Firestone and Dunlop Tire retread shops in Atikokan. In 1968 he took a regional manager's position in Thunder Bay with Dunlop Tire and in 1970 acquired a teaching position in retail merchandising and then English in the adult education program at Confederation College in Thunder Bay. This is where he enjoyed conversing with and was admired by many students until he retired. Summers at the cottage near Atikokan were a favourite time and are fondly remembered by everyone. His longtime friend Claude Riley had a cabin next door and early morning conversations over coffee were the norm. They spent many days fishing, providing fish fries (Claude's wife Vera was an excellent cook!), building add-ons to the cabins, and they all enjoyed card games in the evenings. Warren was a caring and generous person and will be missed very much by all who knew him. He and Lois provided a supportive and loving environment for their children, relatives and friends. Together they raised 4 children and were surrounded by grandchildren and great grandchildren. Warren was predeceased by Lois in 2014. A service will be held Saturday, October 18 at 11:00 am at Broadway United Church in Thunder Bay.

My uncle Warren was the best person that I have ever known. He was kind , generous, loving, smart and funny. I have great childhood memories of him loading up his station wagon with all the kids and going to the drive in movie theatre. He made huge bags of popcorn. It was the best. He also took us to Dinty´s for fried chicken and cold root beer. Mmm. Dairy Queen was also a treat for chocolate dipped soft ice cream cones. He was always fun to be around. Rest in peace Uncle Warren. Love Brian McAuley
