WAYNE CROSS Obituary

DR. WAYNE HERBERT JOSEPH CROSS DVM.

A good man died on December 6, 2018 at the age of 64 years, losing his battle with depression.

Wayne was born in Fort Frances on April 7, 1954. His passion for horses since childhood took him to the University of Guelph Veterinary School where he earned his DVM.

For the past 33 years he was employed by CFIA as the only district veterinarian for all Northwestern Ontario covering from the Manitoba border to Sault Ste. Marie to Fort Severn. His love for motorcycles was his other great passion. The "King" as they called him could ride with exceptional skill and speed. A pillar in the AA community, Wayne was so loved and respected by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Diana, sons Matthew and Ethan, sister Janice (Jeff), brother David, brothers-in-law Jack, Sterling (Terry), sister-in-law Kathy (Dion) and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Wayne's life will be held on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Current River Community Centre, 450 Dewe Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Thunder Bay Therapeutic Riding Association.

I had the privilege of working with Wayne when he worked as a meat inspector at the J M Schneider plant in Kitchener after he graduated from OVC. I saw the news of his passing in a recent addition of the U of G alumni magazine and was saddened to learn of his death. I enjoyed working with him very much but I knew his heart was in the north and he wanted to return there.I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to his family.

Diana and family,
I had the pleasure of working with Wayne for many years, although from a distance (he being in FF and I in TB) as he would authorize the hundreds of export papers I would send him during show season... often in a 'rush' situation. He was always pleasant to speak with and meet with when visiting Thunder Bay. Years later after moving to Thunder Bay, it was great to bump into him every so often in our area.
My condolences to you and your family. You are in my thoughts at this difficult time.

We shared lots of galloping on our horses as children, and Wayne always won our great races. He was a gentle soul with a wonderful laugh and such a kind heart. My sincere sympathy to his family.

So sorry for your beloved's passing. But remember Wayne in his passing did not fear. But saw the Stars of Heaven. Hearing the rustle of Angel Wings taking His eternal soul to God's forever Eternal Love and Life, in Heaven. Where time has no measure in no more sickness or depression. Where Wayne will attain the highest form of Humanity that, is ever possible. I remember Wayne from FFHS as a smart student who had a gifted future. So sorry for your loss, and in the Name of Jesus Our Messiah, God's Anointed One, Our Vouchsafe Lord and Saviour Christ. Is the promise of eternal love and life for all. God's Blessings and comfort in your time of need.

My deepest condolences to Wayne's family -so very sorry to hear of Wayne's passing. I worked with him for many years (I've been with CBSA for over 31 years and it seems he had always been there) He was always been so professional, enthusiastic and dedicated to his role as the CFIA Veterinarian...even though he retired, he would come back and help when needed -such a deep sense of obligation he had. He was a fountain of knowledge and always willing to assist me on any question I posed. I can still hear him.. "Well, here it is Tracey...."

So sorry to hear of your tragic passing Wayne. Many happy memories from the past including times @ travels we spent with Wild Willy @ Riddy. I will never forget the day you displayed your riding skills when you did a wheelie completely up the far side of the Noden causeway. It was always fun and exciting @ an honour to be in your presence.

Also from Fort Frances, I had the chance to connect with Wayne while the Building Inspector in Oliver Paipoonge when he had his house was being built. Reminising about the good old days of growing up in the Fort Frances Area and knowing many of the same people was a memory that has stayed with me. I am so sorry to hear of Wayne's passing, but my memory of a very caring man still remains. He will be dearly missed.
