August 3, 1964 –
August 26, 2022
After a valiant fight with cancer, Wayne took his last breath with family by his side.
Wayne was born to Joan and Lewis Vellinga and raised on the family dairy farm, which he and his wife would eventually take over.
In 1997, the farm was sold and Wayne ventured into the world of construction/landscaping.
Always a perfectionist, Wayne carried out every aspect of his life meticulously. His yard could be in a home and garden magazine, and the “fixer upper” that was supposed to be a five year plan turned into an eighteen year adventure.
The family expresses sincere thanks to nurse Margaret at the Cancer Clinic for her outstanding care – truly the Florence Nightingale of nurses; to Dr. Kevin Bezanson who has such a true gift for care and compassion; Sherri Henderson at the St. Joseph's Care Group Palliative Care Unit for going above and beyond when it was most needed; to Keith and Jenna (EMS paramedics) who were so kind and patient and let Wayne listen to his stereo before transporting him to Hospice; to Wilco Contractors (Fred, David, Richard) for all of their support; to the Leadership Team and all colleagues at the Care Group; and to all the family and friends that were along for the journey – Wayne truly loved all the visits and laughs. A special thanks to great friends Anna and Tony Barile for their continued care and support.
Wayne is survived by his spouse of 35 years, Sandra, their two children - who he so proud of, Parker (Sena) and Brennan (Katie), his mother Joan, his brothers Paul (Eleanora) and Hank (Nancy), and sister and brother-in-law, Celia (John Miedema); several cousins, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. Wayne is predeceased by his father Louis in 2012 and his good friend Edwerd Bolt in 2021.
Wayne, you are at peace now – no more pain, poking or prodding, no more incessantly waiting in doctors offices – just time now to sit back and listen to that perfectly configured stereo in Heaven while sipping on whiskey, listening to Pink Floyd and David Gilmour.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Wayne's life will be held with announcement to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to St. Joseph's Foundation or a
charity of choice.
Wayne – you will live in
our hearts forever
– Rest in Peace.
