William Robert Gordon (Bill) Lucas passed away suddenly and peacefully on Sunday, February 13, 2005 while cat skiing in British Columbia. Bill was born in Fort William, on August 26, 1944, and was a lifelong resident of Thunder Bay. Bill enjoyed spending his time at Lake Nipigon, sailing on Lake Superior, working on the camp and "just puttering". He loved hunting and fishing with his close friends, and the great canoe trips with the North Channel Canoe Club. Bill spent his childhood summers at Birch Beach with his family and lifelong friend Bruce Evans. He was an avid and accomplished skier, and as a youth was a member of the 1963 Lake Superior Ski Division, where he competed at the national level. He attended every ski race, triathlon, rowing regatta, or any other endeavour that his children were involved in. He was a Dad who could fix anything in a pinch with exceptional finesse, and was always there to help repair a bike or a crack in a hull. He spent numerous enjoyable hours working with his son on home renovations. Bill was employed by the LCBO for 26 years, where he retired as store manager in 1999. Family and friends meant everything to Bill, and their presence and companionship were all he needed to be completely happy. "Beachy" Bill will be sadly missed, and is lovingly remembered by Fiorine, his wife of 35 years, son Jason (Riley), daughter Katie, mother Fiona Lucas, sisters Carole (Jim) Davidson, Judy (Jim) Laio, Joan Stewardson, Linda Buchan, brother Robert Lucas and many close friends. Bill was predeceased by his father, Dr. Gordon Lucas. Special thanks and love go out to close family friend Robert Wilkinson (aka Wilky). In memory of Bill, donations can be made to the Lake Nipigon South Bay Anglers Association c/o Jim Davidson 576 Landsdowne Ct. Thunder Bay, P7C 1T9.
