William Nesbitt Obituary

Together At LastKAY - September 12, 1921- October 23, 2003BILL - July 21, 1919- September 25, 2014William (Bill) Nesbitt , much loved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather, passed away peacefully at home. Dad was born in Brandon, Manitoba on July 21, 1919, to Hugh & Mary Ellen Nesbitt of Souris, MB. He travelled to Fort William as a teenager to look for work and it was here that he enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1939. He was a proud Veteran and an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He served overseas with the 4th Field Ambulance and saw action in France, Holland, Italy and Germany. While stationed in Sussex, England in 1940 he met the "love of his life" Kay (Rachel) Brammer. They were married August 22, 1941 and their son Terry was born in Dec. 1942. After the war they resided in Winnipeg where their daughter April was born in March 1946. The family moved to Fort William later in 1946 & bought a new house on Frederica St. In "Westfort" & this remained the family home for the past 68 years. Bill worked for Great Lakes Paper for 38 years, retiring in 1984 as part of the management team. The family built a camp at Cloud Lake in 1960 where Dad enjoyed many a rousing game of horse shoes with his friend and neighbour Ray Tuhkanen. Bill and Kay built their retirement "dream home" in Boca Raton, Florida and Bill continued to live there 6 months of the year with his Loving daughter April after his beloved wife Kay passed away in 2003 . Dad loved music and dancing. Mom taught him to" Ball Room" dance & they could be seen gliding around the floor every Saturday evening at the Branch 6 Canadian Legion on May St. He was a self taught musician playing guitar, banjo, piano & he could "Yodel" with the best. He enjoyed playing Country & Western music with his dad Hugh and his brothers and sisters at family get togethers. Dad was also a good athlete and excelled at hockey, softball and curling. While stationed in England he was a pitcher and catcher for his outfit's Team that won the Canadian Army Championship. He was a shuffleboard Champ and continued to play in Florida up until last winter with April as his partner. Dad will be lovingly remembered by his son Terry (Margaret), daughter April, grandsons, Dean (Suzanne), Ryan, granddaughters, Terra, Rachelle & Jaime (Tom), great grandsons, Andrew, Nathan, Mathew, Joshua, Keghan, Aedyn, Jett and Reese, great granddaughters, Hailey and Isabella and great great granddaughter Taylor and numerous nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his wife Kay, father Hugh, mother Mary Ellen, brothers Harry, Alex "Tiny" and Ivan and sisters Florence and May. The family would like to thank all the caregivers, especially Kathleen, who gave so much love and attention to Dad over the past 3 weeks. Cremation has taken place.
