Yolande Barnes Obituary

Mrs. Yolande Barnes (nee Payette) age 77 years, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 14, 2002 while visiting family in Victoria, BC. Born on March 27, 1924 in Gogama, Ontario, Yolande also lived in Sudbury and Sioux Lookout before moving to Thunder Bay in 1969. Yolande was a kind, gentle person who never spoke an unkind word. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, always knitting sweaters, afgans and socks for the family. She was an avid reader and looked forward to weekly aquabics at the St. Joseph's Heritage. Yo had an excellent memory for detail and enjoyed the company of friends and family, rewarding them with good conversation, a hot cup of tea and fresh baking. Predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Joseph (Barney) in January 2000, also by parents Cyrille and Donalda, sister Jean and brothers Conrad and Maurice. Survived by sons Don (Barb) of Thunder Bay, Robert of Toronto and Mich (Chris) of Victoria, BC; daughters Suzanne (Stephen) of Victoria, BC and Paulette (Peter) of Toronto; Nana will be sadly missed by grandchildren Birch and Terra of North Bay, Shannon, Jonathan and Michelle of Victoria, BC, Lindsay and Samuel of Thunder Bay and Rachael of Victoria, BC; sisters Liliane, Raymonde (Robert), Estelle (Richard); brothers Marcel (Yvette), Guy (Josephine) and Gerald (Mildred). All friends and relations are invited to attend a Memorial Service for Yolande on Saturday, January 19, 2002 at 10 am in OurLady of Loretto Church, 290 Grenville Ave. in Current River. In lieu of flowers, donationscan be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens."
