ALLAN DANN Obituary
Allan Dann passed away suddenly, at home, 10 days shy of his 100th birthday. Born in England, Allan grew up on B.C.'s west coast. His journey on the Sunshine Coast began at the age of two, with summers spent at the family cottage on the beach at Granthams Landing. The 'Coniston Lodge' in Vancouver's West End was his other childhood home. As someone who loved to tell a story, he had many about the cast of characters in his childhood universe and beyond, from visiting opium dens with the cook to swimming between Keats and Gibsons at the age of seven. He lived in another time. Allan and his wife Eleanor were able to retire to Gibsons in 1972. Allan continued to work at odd jobs and furniture building for another 35 years. When Eleanor went to live in Totem Lodge he turned to baking. Shortbread and decadent chocolate cakes were delivered to the staff and residents at Totem, friends and family on a regular basis. A fresh batch of shortbread was waiting at the house when he died. After Eleanor passed away in 2016 Allan turned to the larger community for his social life. He became one of the characters in his tales and his family has been gifted with many stories and touched by tears shed as we go about closing his affairs. We would like to thank his community of people who listened and just paid attention to a sometimes irascible, very deaf old man. You were all hero's to him. Allan was privileged to live and die on his terms, independent to the end and with a very special send off from his good buddies at the crematorium, he will be content. Allan is survived by his two daughters, sons-in-law, and two grandsons. No service by request.
