MICHAEL KIRBY Obituary

Michael John Hurlston Kirby, passed July 22, 2018 at the age of 90. Mike was born July 31, 1927 to Guy Hurlston and Edith Winnifred Kirby (nee Monro). He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years Rita (nee Morin), son Tim, sister Elizabeth and brother Chris. He is survived by his son John, sister Cynthia and daughters-in-law Michele (John), Marion (Tim). He will be remembered by granddaughter Brittany Kirby (Bret), grandsons Mike (Brittney), Dillon and Ryan Kirby, adopted daughter (grand-niece) Dawn, Holly Johnson and her daughters Moorea and Tasha.
Mike was a telecommunications pioneer, a craftsman, mountaineer and ski racer, participating into his late 70's. Mike and Rita had an open house, with many family members and students of all nationalities, age and background that boarded with them over the years.

I shall miss our phone calls which kept us in touch though we had only met twice since we moved from Edmonton to Windsor when Mark was 10, Kate 8, and Daniel 6. I remember after recovering from mumps Mark flew off alone to Calgary to stay with Mike and Rita, John & Tim where he had such a great time. And after a holiday at some famous resort in Alberta we all stayed for a few days with Rita and Mike on the way home to Edmonton. When Kate & Kelvin were on a canoe/bird-watching trip years ago, Mike met them for the first time as grown-ups! When I first moved to Oakville years ago, Mike and Rita came to stay, and guess who did a lot of repairs while I was at work?!
