THOMAS R. McCOURT Obituary

Tom passed away suddenly at home at the age of 78 on January 12, 2023. He was born in New Westminster on April 27, 1944 to Gordon and Lil McCourt. Tom is survived by his wife and love of his life of 30 years, Karen; children Doug (Karen), Rob (Coral), Lisa, Jordan (Ania), and Davyd (Eliza); siblings Hugh (Faye), Steve (Jenny), and Donna; many grandchildren and one great-grandson. Tom is predeceased by his brother Ron. Tom's family moved to Sechelt in the fall of 1959 where they built the road and a home what was later named McCourt Road. Tom's logging career began at a young age when he and his brothers helped their Dad cut shakes on Burke Mountain. The rest of his working life was spent logging the Sunshine Coast and working in construction. Tom's hobbies included hunting, boating, wood working in his shop and sitting around the fire with his family and friends. Tom was a hard working man who was an incredible role model. He was still passing along his expertise until his final days. Tom was a generous, kind, humble man who is loved and will be missed by many. He will always be remembered for his sense of humour and his jokes. Oh those jokes. "Em er some". The family would like to thank everyone who assisted from emergency services on the day he died. A wake will be held sometime in April to celebrate Tom the way he wanted. His most recent favourite quote: "Life has to end. Love doesn't."

My heart goes out to Karen and the kids.
Uncle Tom was one of my favourites, always joking and having a good time. One of the hardest working men and role models I´ve ever known. I know he´s in good company now and I´m sure he was welcomed with open arms. I´m honoured to have known him.

Tom was the kind of guy we wanted to meet when we moved to the coast and we were so lucky to be your friends for the 10 years we spent there. We´ll miss you.
Your Alberta friends, Alex and Eleanor.
