Alexander York Obituary

Alexander (Sandy) York passed away January 28th, 2015. He fought to the very end to be with his family and friends. He was a true miracle of prayer and despite his original cancer diagnosis he was able to be with us two more years. His legacy is felt around the community as the co-founder of Delta Insurance and many hours of giving back to the church and community. Sandy was born and raised in Chilliwack, BC where he met his wife Darlene of 41 years. They were married in 1973 and settled in South Delta shortly after. Sandy had a passion for cars. A favorite pastime was drag racing his 41' Willys; his best time was 8.7 seconds and a speed of 150 mph in the quarter mile. He will be deeply missed by his wife Darlene, daughter Channay (Gord), grandson Hunter. Predeceased by his parents Isa and Henry and brother Milton. Service will be held at South Delta Baptist Church, 1988 56th Street, February 7th, 2015 at 1pm. If you wish to make a donation in Sandy's name they can be made to SHARE at South Delta Baptist Church and the Arthritis Society.

Alex (Sandy) was a dear friend and room-mate in our younger years when we both worked at tha Harrison Hotel in Harrison Hot Springs. Alex was passionate about life and was a very loyal and dear friend. I loved his sense of humour and how he always was able to see the best in everyone. In this past year it was a privilege to be able to talk on several occasions with Sandy on the phone and to share about family, friends and the different journeys we've been on. Love always, Berne and Myra Watters

Sandy was a good and loyal friend for many years. It was our tradition to take turns making a srumptious Birthday dinner on New Year's eve. We had some really great ones in Delta and in Palm Springs and as the years passed, would laugh at how 10 pm became our midnight as we were unable to stay awake. Sandy, your special memory lives on. We will miss all the good times.
