Charles (Chuck) Walter Caughill Obituary

We are deeply saddened to share the sudden passing of Charles (Chuck) Walter Caughill: Born May 6, 1945, in Iroquois Falls, Ontario, and passed away on April 10, 2025, in Tsawwassen, BC.

Chuck was preceded in death by his devoted parents, Rud and Gwen Caughill.

Chuck was a proud member of the RCMP, where he trained at the RCMP Academy, Depot Division in Regina, Saskatchewan, and completed his training on February 28, 1966. The highlight of his training was the opportunity to care for and ride the beautiful RCMP horses. Chuck was transferred first to Sidney, BC, followed by Courtenay, where he was promoted to the rank of Corporal, Port McNeil as the head of the Detachment, Shawnigan Lake, and Quesnel, where he retired in 1989.

Chuck made deep and lasting friendships in every community he lived. However, his years in Tsawwassen were his happiest, and his friendships here were particularly special. Chuck was much loved by his Beach Grove neighbours, especially his best friend Dave Szabo and Dave's wife Lori. Chuck and Dave had a little construction business that we think was named "Good Enough Construction" with a very sound business motto, "Don't call us, we'll call you."

Chuck will be fondly remembered by his children, Kelly (James), Simon and Jessica (Elliot); brother Bill (Barb); sister Diana (Joe) and their children Neil (Karina), Lisa (Darcy), Allison (Jeremy) and Michael (Lisa). Bill and Barb's grandchildren, Olivia, Ainsley and Tyson, held a special place in Chuck's heart, and he will also be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Ryan, Alexa, Courteney, Charlotte, Olivia and Hazel. Finally, he will be missed by his beloved yellow lab "Sage," who will be cared for by the Szabos.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Chuck, with details to follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choosing.

As very young kids our dad's would take us camping/fishing and at times we would be at Chuck's family farm on Hwy 17 on the way to Webbwood. I once got a Belgian Police dog pup from Chuck's family and really loved it till he got ill and was put down. Memories from 70 years ago!

Sorry to hear of Chuck's passing. I will always remember our time together in Espanola, and the time he introduced me to my first night party in Beaver Lake. I ended up following him into the RCMP in 1967 and later 20 years in CSIS. I hope he had a great life snd my prayers are with the family at this time. Greg Savicky, Renfrew, ON

I met Chuck as we were regular daily visitors to North 40 off-leash dog park; he with his yellow lab, Sage. He often had a couple of other dogs in tow as company for Sage. I remember his distinct three-part whistle to locate his dog when Sage would wander off into the cover of the trees.

In loving memory of a gentle and kind soul. I will miss you.

I worked with Chuck when stationed at Courtenay Detachment back in the early-mid 1970's. He was one of the best NCO's who always had your back. We shared some good times during those years. RIP my friend! Rick & Linda ROSS.
