David EDINGER Obituary

EDINGER, David Glenn April 1956 - April 2022 It is with immense sadness we announce the passing of David Glenn Edinger on Monday, April 4th, 2022. He died peacefully surrounded by the love of his family. David grew up in the unique community of Cora Brown on Sea Island in Richmond, B.C. with his parents Dorothy and Alfred Edinger and his sister Bev. It was a close knit community allowing for a care free childhood where neighbours supported each other and lifelong friendships were forged. David served proudly as a firefighter with the Richmond Fire Department for 35 years. "Dave was the embodiment of what it means to be a firefighter; he was intelligent, dedicated, quick witted and funny when the occasion called for it." He was also a Red Seal carpenter and throughout his life used his skill and knowledge to help those in need. David will be remembered for enriching the life of every person he encountered. He did so with kindness, compassion, and willingness to lend a helping hand at every opportunity. From building homes for communities in need to helping family, friends and neighbours with the largest or smallest of tasks, Dave truly found joy in serving anyone in need. Dave had a passion for playing, coaching, and watching sports, listening and sharing his great taste in music, and taking care of numerous family pets. He deeply valued the friendships that he made and most of all he loved spending time with and caring for his family. Dave will be forever remembered with love by his wife and best friend, Fran; their children Brock and Connor; his sister Bev (Ken) and their children Ben and Robyn and their families. Thank you to the many friends who helped us during Dave's illness; your care is deeply appreciated. In memory of Dave please consider a donation to one of the following: BC Cancer Foundation to PATH (Head and Neck Cancer). A Charity of Your Choice that provides assistance to those in need. Provide an unexpected act of service for a neighbour, a friend or a stranger. Celebration of Life to honour Dave on June 11th at 1:30 pm at South Delta Baptist Church, 1988 56 St, Tsawwassen. Captain Edinger was an exceptionally kind person. As a new firefighter, he made me feel welcome and valued. He was just someone who always did that little extra bit. For example, he phoned me at home when I had my first child. While many people texted or posted something on Facebook, he just made the extra effort to call. After being away from the floor and feeling disconnected from my work friends for 9 months, it meant a lot to me. When he retired he gave me a lucky piece of rope which he said would keep me safe out there. He told me to put in my turnout gear pocket. I have since forgotten why that particular rope was special, or his exact words. But I remember how being given that piece of old rope made me feel. I still have it in my pocket.
He is a Captain I will always remember with a smile, and he will be greatly missed by myself and many others. To his family members, I'm so sorry for your loss and I'm thankful that I got to know him.

Fran , Brock and Connor we are so sorry to hear about the loss of Dave . He will truly be missed by so many. He was a great neighbour and friend . Brett and Brock were always together playing baseball, squash, and soccer and Dave was always there to mentor and encourage them . He also encouraged Brett, Brock and Justin to Umpire baseball and it served them with many life skills in later years . When ever our families were together we had great fun with his wit and humour . He was an amazing community member who helped many. Hinchcliffe family

Dave was younger than me and always respected me and was kind to me whenever we met. His family lived on same road as our family. (Tapp Rd.) I remember his sister Bev and mother. His father, our local milkman. David grew up to be a real gentleman. Will be missed.
