David Thoburn Obituary

Born June 9, 1936 - Passed away December 24, 2022. 86 years old.

Survived by his loving son Graham, daughter-in-law Kelly, grandchildren Lucas and Cole, a very special friend (and ours as well) Wanda Anderson, sister Valerie Coombs, niece Christina Coombs and nephew Robert Coombs, and many, many excellent friends, too numerous to list. He was predeceased by his oldest son Randy Thoburn in 1978.

Terry was an accomplished aviator, being in the very exclusive Mach 1 and Mach 2 clubs set in the F-86 and the CF-104, respectively. Terry retired from Canadian Airlines, formerly CP Air, as a DC-10 Captain. He was also endorsed on the F-86 Sabre (top of his class) Harvard, Chipmunk, Otter, Beach-18, DC-3, DC-8, Boeing 737, and the iconic Boeing 747.

Terry was an avid sports fan, especially hockey - a shameless Canucks fan to the bitter end, often saying much to his chagrin, we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory again! Terry was a pretty good athlete himself, in both hockey and football - he was invited to try out for the Ottawa Rough Riders back in the day. Very fast, but he opted for an aviation career in the military instead. Terry was a bit of a philanthropist to many good causes, and he never met a dog he didn't like or vice versa.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Canadian Parkinson's Society. He will be greatly missed by all his family and dear friends!

To my friend Graham, I offer deep condolences from my family to yours. We remember the fun times with your Dad and family at gatherings in Richmond and at group family vacations at places like Silver Lake. The positive memories sustain us in times of grief.
