Donald McINTYRE Obituary
McINTYRE, Donald Sydney
On September 19, 2024 we lost our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and dear friend, Donald Sydney McIntyre. Don left us at the age of 78, and his spirit of true grit, wisdom, and humour, was how he approached everything in life. Don is survived by his wife Lida; children Matt and Paige (husband Peter, grandkids Alex and Max); sister Marguerite, and countless of others who loved him endlessly.
Don was born in New Westminster on January 6, 1946 to Walter McIntyre and Phyllis Williamson. Don grew up in Coquitlam with five siblings, Walter, Douglas, Marguerite, Donna-Mae and Greg where they all shared an amazing bond together and countless stories retold by family.
Don's love for nature and the ocean was apparent all throughout his life. Through his career, Don was always a stone's throw away from the ocean. Don worked as a longshoreman and then at Westshore Terminals for 32 years where he had made a lifetime of memories and lifelong friends. Don would be seen going fishing with his family for Spring salmon along the Coast of Nootka Sound, where his call to nature was a place of peace and freedom.
Don had a special place in his heart for the love of art, music and poetry. He would recite poetry and funny stories that would captivate the room and have everyone laughing. Don's love for watercolour painting would emanate through his scenes of sailboats, lighthouses and oceanfront's, while his stained-glass art is hung proudly with warm rays of light shining through with God's embrace.
Our family would like to extend a heart felt thank you to the amazing healthcare workers who helped him along his journey. A funeral mass will be held at the Sacred Heart Parish, 3900 Arthur Drive, Delta, B.C. on October 15, 2024 at 10:00am, with a reception to follow.
You were a light to everyone's life you touched. You will be greatly missed and we will remember your legacy, your kind deep voice and the word's of your cheers you used to say; "May the hinges of friendship never rust, nor the wings of love lose a feather."
Cheers to you Dad
