Edward MAIFREDI Obituary

October 14, 1941 - March 29, 2013

"If you wish to know the road up the mountain, You must ask the man who goes back and forth on it."

Eddie passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Good Friday from colon cancer at Lions Gate Hospital. International architect, lover of small wayward creatures and plants, artist, philanthropist, treasure collector, lover of opera and poetry, world adventurer, purveyor of international curious cuisine. He will always be loved by his wife and two children in North Vancouver and sister, brother and family in North Queensland. A devoted and involved member of St. Stephen's Parish community; he was a member of the Prayer group Alpha, and the Cursillo Community; St. Paul's Soup kitchen, where he did bread runs to the needy downtown; and many good things for the downtrodden on the east side. He had an unconditionally loving heart. Our heartfelt thanks to the caring and compassionate ICU staff at LGH who made each day more bearable and cared until the end. A memorial service is being held on Tuesday the 9th of April at 11am at St. Stephens Church in Lynn Valley. Prayers will be held the previous night at 7pm.

A world apart, yet close at heart - Edwardo Angelo Francisco, fondly remembered from our times together when he lived at Paddington, Brisbane in his student days, from his infrequent return visits and our visits to his new found land, and occasional correspondences and mutual friends in the profession and beyond over the years - a good man from Euramo, via Tully, FNQ

Dear Aunty Marian, David and Benny,
I am sending my love across the ocean and in a month I'll send myself! Uncle Eddie was one of those special people that had a remarkable yest for life always cooking up crazy delicious recipes that he picked up in his travels. One of the best things about reading his emails was feeling like you were right there with him. I am truley blessed that I got to spend two months hanging out and getting to see Vancouver through Uncle Eddie's eye. He will be truely missed and forever travel with my in my heart.
Thinking of you always and forever.

Dearest Marian, David and Ben,
On the 18th March this year, Eddie came back to see his brother Bruno who is also ill, and stayed with Bruno and Judy for 5 days on the farm.
A very short visit, but during this time his nephew Peter and Shelly, had a BBQ for all the family to get together. Lots of photos were taken and he also caught up with some friends going back many years.
Eddie was a very loving and caring brother and his travelling stories were inspiring and a joy to hear.
I received many phone calls from around the world over the years, starting with " It's Eddie here, I'm in ...."
On Saturday, 23/3/13 we said goodbye and see you in a couple of months.
His passing has been unexpected and leaves a big gap in our family.
My condolences, love and prayers,
His sister, Elena

Dear Marian, David & Ben,
Lots of love to you and to all the family at this time. I said Mass for Eddie last weekend and i also remembered him on Good Friday as Graham had kept me informed of the news. I have passed the news onto the Lancini's in Halifax and they wish to be remembered to all of you. I will continue to keep Eddie and yourselves in my prayers and Masses. If you ever come to Townsville there's always a beer and a bed at the parish house. God love you all. Fr Dave Lancini

Uncle Eddie is in our prayers. His love of nature, art and family have inspired us all. He is with us always here at the farm.as he has left a legacy of architecture, rare plants grown to maturity and endangered Scarlet finches returned to populations of old thanks to his conservation efforts on his trips back to Australis. He has inspired his nieces and nephews and our own children to follow their talent but always to retain 'family' at the heart of all you do. Prayers are with you Aunty Marion, Dave and Ben. Dear Aunty Marion, David and Ben,
We are so far away from you all and we wish we could be there with you to join together and celebrate Uncle Eddies life as he always gave us such joy and light and love every time he visited us at home in Tully.
Kyle, Josh and Georgia only knew him for a short time and although they never saw him that often they loved him like I have always loved him because we all knew he was so special in so many different ways. We all miss him so much but everyone over here was so lucky to have had him visit us in February and he celebrated Mums birthday at a family BBQ with all his Aussie family around him.

Our love and thoughts are with you and David and Ben.

Love Barbara, Peter, Kyle, Joushua and georgia.

I will always remember Eddie for his good nature, friendliness, cursillo men's weekends, and St. Paul's Community Kitchen. I liked to hear his travel stories about working in some foreign land and his knowledge of different kinds of foods. Condolences to his family. Thank You for sharing him in our community. God Bless everyone.
