Eugene BAKER Obituary

BAKER, Eugene Edmond 'Gino' / 'Pachelli' / 'Popeye' Sunrise: December 10, 1928 – Sunset: February 25, 2015 With great sadness we announce the passing of our dear elder Eugene Edmond Baker. Eugene was a man with many names and was affectionately referred to most often by 'Gino'. Gino was born to his parents William John & Caroline (nee: Sparrow) Baker on December 10, 1928 and proudly descends from the Squamish and Musqueam tribes. He died surrounded by the love of his family at Squamish General Hospital on February 25, 2015 at approximately 10:45 pm. Gino was always kind and had a great sense of humour and loved to make people laugh. He attended St. Paul's Indian Residential School where he learned to box with his schoolmates, outside of the school grounds he played lacrosse with his relatives. Gino spent many years gillnetting up and down the west coast – he loved to pass time with his fishing stories of times out at sea. He was also one of the original Squamish Nation Peace Keepers. Gino is survived and will be deeply missed by his children Robert Campbell (Mary Jane), Derryl Baker (Laverna), Douglas Campbell Baker, Roberta Sharon Baker, Maureen Baker (Peter Hubley), Charlene Baker; grandchildren Rebecca Duncan (Marcel), Chief Ian Campbell (Mandy), Derryl Baker Jr., Lelanie Baker-Paulic, Janet Baker, Caroline Christina Charles, Curtis Baker, Cassandra Baker, Jeremy Baker, Leanne Paul, Lindsay C. Baker-Hubley, Keith Point, Kameron Gyle Wallace Baker-George; and 27 Great Grandchildren; many loving relatives and dear friends. A prayer service was held on March 1, 2015 (Sunday) at 7:00 pm and a funeral service on March 2, 2015 (Monday) at 10:00 am both at Totem Hall, 1380 Stawamus Road, Squamish, BC.
