Evelyn OLSEN Obituary
OLSEN, Evelyn
1928 - 2024
After 95 years on earth Mum made her final departure January 22nd. She has left her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with a treasure trove of memories, shared experiences, wisdom, generosity and laughter.
Mum was curious about the world, the people and places in it, travelling solo most of her life. Finding herself a single parent without a high school diploma in her mid 30s, mum managed to complete her education with a BA from UBC at 44. She then went on to work as a teacher-librarian with the Surrey School Board until retiring at 65. Mum spent the next 10 years volunteering at McKee House, lawn bowling, travelling the world and babysitting her 5 grandchildren. Her love of nature and the world around her continued even as her eyesight and mobility failed.
Quoting a verse from mum's favourite Neil Young song "Harvest Moon"
"There's a full moon rising
Let's go dancing in the light
We know where the music's playing
Let's go out and feel the night"
